Bigfoot Slippers

U.S. Terminology used

Gauge: 3 Sts = 1", 3 Rows = 1"

Materials Needed:

Sizes I, 4 and N crochet Hooks.

5-6 oz. peach yarn Red Heart Super Saver. (Rolled into 2 balls) #4 yarn (or any worsted weight.)

8.8 oz. Yarnspirations Bernat Brown Bear Sheepy yarn. Size #6, Super Bulky Size Grey G cotton crochet thread

Darning and sewing needle Scissors

Sole - Make 2 (10 1/2"-12, 12-13 1/2" )

Follow color coded st count for size above.

Rnd 1. With 2 strands of peach yarn and I hook, ch 23, 26. Make 2 dcs in 4th ch from hook. Dc in each of the next 18, 21 chs. Make 6 dc in the last ch. Working on the opposite side of ch, dc in each of the next 18, 21 sts. Make 3 dc in the same ch where you started the 2 dcs at the beginning. The beginning ch 3 will count as a dc now and throughout. Join to the top of beg st with a sl st. (48, 54 sts made.)

Rnd 2. Ch 3 and dc in the same st for an inc. (Make 2 dc in next st) twice. Dc in each of the next 18, 21 sts. (Make 2 dc in next st) 6 times. Dc in each of the next 18, 21 sts. (Make 2 dc in next st) 3 times. Join at the top of beg ch 3. (60, 66 sts made.)

Rnd 3. Ch 1, DO NOT sc in this st. (Make 2 sc in the next st. Sc in next st) 3 times. Sc in each of the next 7, 8 sts. Hdc in each of the next 4 5 sts. Dc in each of the next 7, 8 sts.Make 2 dc in next st, dc in next st) 6 times. Dc in each of the next 6, 7 sts. Hdc in each of the next 4, 5 sts. Sc in each of the next 8, 9 sts. (Make 2 sc in the next st. Sc in next st) 3 times. Join in back lp of 1st sc with sl st. (72, 80 sts made.)

Rnd 4. Ch 1 and sc in each st around. Join to beg sc with sl st. End off and weave in the end.

Repeat for opposite sole.

Fold each sole in half and mark the center st at toe as shown below.

Set pieces aside

Toes and Heel

Big Toe

Rnd 1. With size I hook and 2 strands of Peach Yarn, ch 11. Join to 1st ch made with a sl st to form a circle.

Rnd 2. Ch 1 and sc in each st around. Do NOT join, but do mark 1st st, now and throughout. (11 sc made.)

Rnd 3. Sc in each of the 11 sts around.

Rnd 4. Sc in each of the next 3 sts. Make 2 sc in next st for an inc. Sc in each remaining st around. (12 sts made.)

Rnd 5: Sc in each of the next 9 sts. Make 2 sc in the next st. Sc in each remaining st around. (13 sts made.) Rnd 6. Sc in each of the next 7 sts. Make 2 sc in the next st. Sc in each remaining st around. (14 sts made.) Rnd 7. Sc in each st around. JOIN to 1st st with sl st. (14 sts made.)

Rnd 8. Ch 1, (hdc next 2 sts tog) around. Join to the top of beg ch-2 with sl st. End off leaving a tail.

Finishing Toe: Weave end of toe tog using darning needle.

2nd Toe

Rnd 1. A. Attach yarn in any st at the bottom of the 1st large toe as shown below. B. Ch 1 and sc in the same st and in each of the next 2 sts. C. Ch 7. D. Join the 1st sc made on rnd with a sl st.

Rnd 2. Ch 1 and sc in each sc and ch around. Do NOT join. (10 sts made.)

Rnds 3-5. Sc in each sc around.(10 sts made.) At the end of rnd 7, sl st into next st.

Rnd 6. Ch 1, (hdc next 2 sts tog) around. Join to the top of beg ch-2 with sl st. End off leaving a tail. Finish as before.

Flatten piece as shown below and mark the center side st.

3rd Toe (Middle Toe)

Rnd 1: Attach yarn in the 1st st to the right of the marked st with ch 1 and sc.

Sc in each of the next 2 sts. (Remove marker.) Ch 5 and join to the 1st sc made on rnd. 3 sts and 1 ch5 made.)

Rnd 2. Sc in the 1st st. Make 2 sc in the next st. Sc in each of the next 2 chs. Make 2 sc in the next ch. Sc in each remaining ch around. Do Not Join. (10 sts made.)

Rnds 3-5. Sc in each sc around. (10 sts made.) At the end of rnd 6, sl st into next st.

Rnd 6. Ch 1, (hdc next 2 sts tog) around. Join to the top of beg ch-2 with sl st. End off leaving a tail. Finish as before.

Mark for 4th toe as before.

4th Toe

Rnd 1. Attach yarn in the 1st st to the right of the marked st with ch 1 and sc. Sc in each of the next 2 sts, removing the marker. Ch 7 and join to 1st sc made on the rnd with a sl st.

Rnd 2. Ch 1 and sc in each sc and ch around. Do Not Join. (10 sts made.)

Rnds 3-4. Sc in each sc around. (10 sts made.) At the end of rnd 6, sl st into next st.

Rnd 5. Ch 1, (hdc next 2 sts tog) around. Join to the top of beg hdc with sl st. End off leaving a tail. Finish as before.

Mark for Little toe as before.

Little Toe

Rnd 1. Attach yarn in the 1st st to the right of the marked st with ch 1 and sc. Sc in each of the next 2 sts, removing the marker. Ch 5 and join to 1st sc made on the rnd with a sl st.

Rnd 2. Sc in each sc and ch around. (8 sts made.)

Rnds 3-4. Sc in each sc around. (8 sts made.) At the end of rnd 6, sl st into next st.

Rnd 5. Ch 1, (sc next 2 sts tog) around. Join to beg sc with sl st. End off leaving a tail. Finish as before.

Repeat for the opposite slipper.

Attaching Toes to Sole

Find center of Toes

You will only be sewing the back side of the toes to the slipper, leaving the tops of the toes open. Fold toe in half and mark the center. Match the center mark on toes to the center mark on the sole. Match Center marks

Pin the back sides of the toes to the sole as shown below.

With a single strand of yarn and darning needle, sew between all pins leaving the tops of the toes open.

Right foot - finishing toes

With Brown yarn and N hook, join to the 1st st to the side of the Big toe for the right foot or to the right of the little toe on the left foot.

Working through the top sts only on toes, ch 1 sc in 1st st on big toe. (Mark this st.) Make 4 more sts across the big toe. Make 3 sts across the 2nd toe. Make 3 across the middle toe. Make 2 sc across toe next to pinkie and 2 sc across pinkie marking last st. (15 sts made so far.) On sole (sk next st, sc in next st) around for 27, 33 sts on sole and 15 sts across toes. (42, 48 total sc made around.)

Go to Begin Instep for the right foot.

Left foot - finishing toes

Attach Brown yarn to 1st st to the side of the Pinkie toe.

Working through the top sts only on toes, ch 1 sc in 1st st on pinkie (mark this st) make 1 more st across pinkie. Make 2 sc across the next toe. Make 3 across the middle toe. Make 3 sc across the next toe. Make 5 sts across the big toe, marking the last st. (15 sts made so far.) (Skip 1 st on sole and sc in next st) around to 1st sc made. (27, 33 around sole and 15 sts on toe for a total of 42, 48 sc made.) Go to Begin Instep below.

Begin Instep

Working with Bernat Sheepy Yarn: This yarn may be a little tricky to work with at 1st. I recommend that when finding where to place your next st that you search for the next space. (You can feel this with your fingers.) Be sure to keep your st count correct (even if you have to add or delete a st.) Especially important is to keep the st count (between markers) at the top of the sole correct. If it is hard to insert the N hook into the 1st peach chs across the toe, sc beneath the chs into the 1st row of peach sc on toes.

Rnd 1. With size N hook and Brown #6 yarn in the 1st marked st. Ch 1 and sc in same st. Replace marker. (Sk next st and sc in each of the next 2 sts) 4 times. Sk next st and sc in marked st. Replace marker. (10 sts made so far.) Sc in each of the 27, 33 sts around the heel. Do NOT Join and keep moving markers up every rnd until told not to. (37, 43 sts made.)

Rnd 2. Sc in marked st and replace marker. (Sk next st, sc in next st) 2 times. (Sc in next st, sk next st) 2 times. Sc in marked st and replace marker. (6 sts made across toe.) Sc in each of the next 27, 33 sts around. (33, 39 sts made.)

Rnd 3. Sc in each of the 33, 39 sc around.

Rnd 4. Sc in marked st. Sk 1 st, sc in each of the next 2. Sk 1 st and sc in marked st. (4 sc made so far.) Sc in the next 26, 32 sts (1 st short of the marker) (30, 36 sc made.)

Rnd 5. Sc the st you left from rnd 4 together with the 1st marked st for a dec. Replace marker. Sc next 2 sts tog. Sc marked st and next st tog. Sc in next 25, 31 (1 short of marker.) (28, 34 sc made.)

Rnd 6. Sc the st you left from rnd 5 together with the 1st marked st for a dec. Replace marker. skip next st. Sc marked st and next st tog. Remove this marker. Sc next 2 sts tog. (4 sc made so far.) Sc in next 20, 26 sts around. (24, 30 sc made.)

Rnd 7. Sc marked st and next st tog. Sc next 2 sts tog. Sc in each rem st around to beg marker. (24, 30 sc made.)

Rnds 8-15. Sc in each of the 24, 30 sts around. End off and weave in the end of rnd 15.

Toe Nails

All are made with #5 cotton crochet thread and size 4 hook. Make 2 each, one for each toe.

Big Toe Nail

Row 1. Ch 6, make 2 sc in 1st ch. Sc in each of the next 3 chs. Make 2 sc in last st. Ch 1 and turn. (7 sc made.)

Row 2. Make 2 sc in 1st st. Sc in each of the next 5 sts. Make 2 sc in last st. Ch 1 and turn. (9 sc made.)

Rows 3-9. Sc in each st across. Ch 1 and turn. (9 sc made.) Do not ch 1 at the end of row 9, 9but end off leaving a long tail to later sew to toe. Set aside. f

Next 3 Toe Nails (Make 3)

Row 1. Ch 5, make 2 sc in 1st ch. Sc in each of the next 2 chs. Make 2 sc in last st. Ch 1 and turn. (6 sc made.)

Row 2. Make 2 sc in 1st st. Sc in each of the next 4 sts. Make 2 sc in last st. Ch 1 and turn. (8 sc made.)

Rows 3-7. Sc in each st across. Ch 1 and turn. (8 sc made.) Do not ch 1 at end of row 8, but end off leaving a long tail to later sew to toe. Set aside.

Pinkie

Row 1. Ch 4, make 2 sc in 1st ch. Sc in each of the next chs. Make 2 sc in last st. Ch 1 and turn. (5 sc made.)

Row 2. Make 2 sc in 1st st. Sc in each of the next 3 sts. Make 2 sc in last st. Ch 1 and turn. (7 sc made.)

Rows 3-6. Sc in each st across. Ch 1 and turn. (7 sc made.) Do not ch 1 at the end of row 8, but end off leaving a long tail to later sew to toe. Set aside.

Pin and sew Nails to toes..

Repeat all steps above for the 2nd slipper making sure one big toe is on the right side of the slipper and the other is on the left.

Sew Toes Together - if desired

Thread a darning needle with brown yarn and attach to either side. Back sew along top between peach and brown rows. At the toe seams draw the toes together.

You may have to do 2-3 rows to get toes to lay nicely.
