Materials needed
Bib: Three ounces (85 grams) black cotton worsted weight #4 yarn and a size I crochet hook, 0.25 ounces of black #2 ply yarn, 0.25 ounces yellow #2 ply yarn and size D hook. (I use Lion Brand Bon Bon’s which can be purchased on Amazon or at JoAnn’s.) Small amount of fiber fill. Darning needle.
Bib – Beginning at Bottom
Row 1: With black Yarn and I hook, chain 22, single crochet in 2nd chain from hook and in each single crochet across. Chain 1, turn. (21 single crochet.)
Rows 2-5: Make 2 single crochet in first stitch. Single crochet in each stitch until last stitch. Make 2 single crochet in last stitch. Chain 1, turn. (29 stitches at end of row 5.)
Rows 6-32: Work even in single crochet. Chain 1, turn. Do not end off.
Begin Side Separation
Row 1: Single crochet in next 12 stitches. Chain 1, turn.
Row 2: Make a single crochet decrease over first 2 stitches at neck edge. Single crochet in each of the remaining 10 stitches. Chain 1, turn. (11 single crochet.)
Row 3: Single crochet in each of the next 9 stitches. Make a single crochet decrease over last 2 stitches at neck edge. Chain 1, turn. (10 single crochet.)
Row 4: Make a single crochet decrease over first 2 stitches at neck edge. Single crochet in each of the remaining 8 stitches. Chain 1, turn. (9 single crochet.)
Row 5: Single crochet in each of the next 7 stitches. Make a single crochet decrease over last 2 stitches at neck edge. Chain 1, turn. (8 single crochet.)

Row 6-9: Single crochet in each single crochet across. Chain 1, turn. (8 single crochet.)
Row 10: Make 2 single crochet in first single crochet for an increase. Single crochet in each single crochet until last 2 single crochet. Make a single crochet decrease over last 2 single crochet. (Decrease is at bib’s outside edge and increase is at inside neck edge.) Chain 1, turn. (8 single crochet.)
Row 11: Single crochet in each single crochet across. Chain 1, turn. (8 single crochet.) Rows 12-17: Repeat rows 10 and 11.
Row 18: Single crochet increase in first stitch. Single crochet in next 3 stitches. (Single crochet decrease over next 2 stitches) twice. Chain 1, turn. (7 single crochet.)
Row 19: Single crochet decrease over first 2 stitches. Single crochet in next 5 stitches. Chain 1, turn. (6 single crochet.)
Row 20: Single crochet increase over first stitch. Single crochet in next 3 stitch. Single crochet decrease over last 2 stitches. Chain 1, turn. (6 single crochet.)
Row 21: (Single crochet decrease over next 2 stitches) twice. Single crochet in next 2 stitches. Chain 1 and turn for 2ndside, but end off and weave in end for first side.
Opposite Side
Row 1: Attach black yarn with slip stitch in opposite side stitch of Bib-Bottom-Row 32. Single crochet in same stitch and in next 11 stitches. Chain 1, turn. (12 single crochet.)
Repeat Rows 2-21: Repeat Rows 2-21 of Side Separation above. Do not end off. Chain 1, turn.
Finishing: Single crochet in first single crochet, chain 4 for button loop, skip 1 single crochet, single crochet in next 2 single crochet. Continue in single crochet evenly around outside edge of bib down to bottom corner. Make 2 single crochet in corner. Single crochet in each of the next 27 foundation chain. Make 2 single crochet in next corner. Continue to single crochet evenly up next side stopping at neck edge. End off and weave in end.

Pectorals
Row 1: With black and I hook, chain 28, single crochet in 2nd chain from hook and in each chain across. Chain 1, turn. (27 single crochet)
Row 2: Single crochet first 2 single crochet together. Half double crochet in each of the next 10 stitches. Single crochet in next stitch. Slip stitch in center stitch. (Mark this stitch.) Single crochet in next stitch. Half double crochet in each of the next 10 stitches. Single crochet last 2 single crochet together. Chain 1, turn. (25 single crochet.)
Row 3: Single crochet first 2 stitches together. Half double crochet in each of the next 8 stitches. Single crochet next 2 stitches together. Slip stitch in marked slip stitch. Replace marker. Single crochet next 2 single crochet together. Half double crochet in each of the next 8 stitches. Single crochet first two stitches together. Chain 1, turn.
Row 4: Single crochet first 2 single crochet together. Make 2 double crochet in next stitch. Double crochet in each of the next 4 stitches. Half double crochet in next stitch. Single crochet in each of the next 2 stitches. Slip stitch in marked slip stitch. Remove marker. Single crochet in each of the next 2 stitches. Half double crochet in next stitch. Double crochet in each of the next 4 stitches. Make 2 double crochet in next stitch. Single crochet last 2 stitches together.
Continue single crochet around entire piece, making slip stitch in marked slip stitch. Join to first single crochet made with slip stitch. End off and weave in end.
Top Abdominals
Row 1: With flesh color and I hook, chain 18. Single crochet in 2nd chain from hook and in each of the next 7 chain. Make 3 single crochet in next chain, marking 2nd chain as center. Single crochet in each of the last 8 chain across. (19 chain) Chain 1, turn.
Row 2: Make 2 single crochet in first single crochet. Single crochet in each of the next 8 single crochet. Single crochet in marked single crochet. Replace marker. Single crochet in each of the next 8 single crochet. Make 2 single crochet in last single crochet. Chain 1, turn.
Row 3: Single crochet in each of the 21 single crochet across. Chain 1, turn.
Row 4: Make 2 single crochet in first single crochet. Single crochet in each single crochet until last single crochet. Make 2 single crochet in last single crochet. Chain 1, turn.
Row 5: Single crochet in each of the 23 single crochet across. Chain 1, turn.
Row 6: Single crochet first 2 single crochet together. Single crochet in each of the next 7 stitches. Half double crochet in next stitch. Double crochet in next stitch. Treble crochet in marked stitch. Double crochet in next stitch. Half double crochet in next stitch. Single crochet in each of the next 7 single crochet. Single crochet last 2 single crochet together. 1, turn.
Row 7: Single crochet in each of the next 8 stitches. Half double crochet in next stitch. In next stitch make (double crochet and treble crochet.) Treble crochet in marked stitch. In next stitch make (treble crochet and double crochet.) Half double crochet in next stitch. Single crochet in each of the next 8 single crochet. Chain 3, turn.

Row 8: First chain-3 counts as first stitch. Double crochet in next stitch. Half double crochet in next stitch. Single crochet in each of the next 6 stitches, half double crochet in next stitch, make 2 double crochet in next stitch. Double crochet in marked stitch. Make 2 double crochet in next stitch. Half double crochet in next stitch. Single crochet in each of the next 6 stitches. Half double crochet in next stitch. Double crochet in each of the last 2 stitches. Chain 1 and turn work right to work down the sides of rows 1-8.
Finishing: Single crochet evenly down sides 8-1. Working along opposite side of beginning chain, single crochet in each chain across. Turn work to the right once more and single crochet evenly up rows 1-8. Join to 3rd chain of the first chain-3 turning stitch made on Row 8 with a slip stitch. End off leaving a 20” tail to sew to bib front.
Finishing: Pin and sew sides and bottom as shown below. Lightly stuff top and sew closed. Sew a center seam from marked stitch down to bottom center as shown below.
Middle Abs
Row 1: With flesh color and I hook, chain 14. Single crochet in 2nd chain from hook and in each of the next 5 chain. Make 3 single crochet in next chain, marking 2nd chain as center. Single crochet in each of the last 6 chain across. Chain 1, turn.
Row 2: Make 2 single crochet in first single crochet. Single crochet in each of the next 5 single crochet. Half double crochet in next stitch. Double crochet in marked single crochet. Replace marker. Half double crochet in next stitch. Single crochet in each of the next 5 single crochet. Make 2 single crochet in last single crochet. Chain 1, turn.
Row 3: Make 2 single crochet in first single crochet. Single crochet in each of the next 6 single crochet. Half double crochet in next stitch. Double crochet in marked single crochet. Replace marker. Half double crochet in next stitch. Single crochet in each of the next 6 single crochet. Make 2 single crochet in last single crochet. Chain 1, turn.
Row 4: Single crochet first 2 single crochet together. Single crochet in each of the next 7 stitches. Half double crochet in next stitch. Single crochet in each of the next 7 single crochet. Single crochet last 2 single crochet together. 1, turn.
Row 5: Single crochet first 2 single crochet together. Single crochet in each stitch until only 2 stitches remain. Single crochet last 2 single crochet together. Chain 1 and turn work right to work down the sides of rows 1-6.
Finishing: Single crochet evenly down sides 5-1. Working along opposite side of beginning chain, single crochet in each chain across. Turn work to the right once more and single crochet

Row 2: Make 2 single crochet in first single crochet. Single crochet in each of the next 3 single crochet. Half double crochet in next stitch. Double crochet in marked single crochet. Replace marker. Half double crochet in next stitch. Single crochet in each of the next 3 single crochet. Make 2 single crochet in last single crochet. Chain 1, turn.
Row 3: Make 2 single crochet in first single crochet. Single crochet in each of the next 4 single crochet. Half double crochet in next stitch. Double crochet in marked single crochet. Replace marker. Half double crochet in next stitch. Single crochet in each of the next 4 single crochet. Make 2 single crochet in last single crochet. Chain 1, turn.
Row 4: Single crochet first 2 single crochet together. Single crochet in each of the next 5 stitches. Half double crochet in next stitch. Single crochet in each of the next 5 single crochet. Single crochet last 2 single crochet together. 1, turn.
Row 5: Single crochet first 2 single crochet together. Single crochet in each single crochet until only 2 stitches remain. Single crochet last 2 single crochet together. Chain 1 and turn work right to work down the sides of rows 1-5.
Finishing: Single crochet evenly down sides 5-1. Working along opposite side of beginning chain, single crochet in each chain across. Turn work to the right once more and single crochet evenly up rows 1-5. Join to 1st single crochet made on Row 8 with a slip stitch. End off leaving a 20” tail to sew to bib front.
Pin all pieces to bib as shown below.
Finishing: Sew bottom and sides only to bib front. Lightly stuff and sew top closed. Repeat this process with all abs. Make a seam down center of Pectorals as shown below.

Row 1: With lighter weight #3 Black yarn and size D hook chain 24, make 2 single crochet in 2nd chain from hook and in each chain across until last stitch. Make 2 single crochet in last stitch. (25 single made.) Turn.
Row 2: Chain 1, single crochet in each single crochet across. Turn.
Row 3: Chain 1, single crochet in each single crochet across. Turn.
Row 4: Single crochet first 2 single crochet together. Single crochet in each of the next 21 stitches. Single crochet last 2 single crochet together. (23 single crochet made.) Do not end off, but turn.
Begin first top wing
Row 1: Chain 1, single crochet in each of the next 5 stitches. Turn leaving remaining stitches unworked.
Row 2: Chain 1, single first 2 single crochets together. Single crochet in next stitch. Single crochet last 2 single crochet together.
Row 3: Chain 1, single crochet in each single crochet across. Chain 2, turn. Row4: Single crochet in 2nd chain from hook and in next single crochet on body. Single crochet last 2 single crochet together. End off and weave in end.
To opposite wing top: Attach black yarn at opposite top edge of bat body and repeat rows 1-4 above.

Find center chain and mark it. Attach black yarn in 3rd stitch to the right of the marker.
Head
Row 1: Chain 1, single crochet in same stitch and in each of the next 6 stitches. (7 single crochet made.)
Row 2: Chain 1, single crochet first 2 stitches together. Single crochet in each of the next 3 stitches. Single crochet last 2 stitches together. (5 single crochet made.)
Row 3: Chain 1, single crochet in each of the 5 single crochet across.
Row 4: Chain 4, skip 1st stitch, slip stitch in next single crochet. Single crochet in next 2 stitches together, slip stitch in same stitch, chain 4, slip stitch into last stitch. End off and weave in ends.
You will be creating 5 points on the bottom edge of your bat. 2 large wing points, 2 small points and 1 center body point.
Bottom left wing
Attach black yarn at bottom left edge of beginning chain. Row 1: Chain 1, single crochet first 4 chains. (4 single crochet made.) Turn.
