Materials Needed:
- Sizes N and F crochet hook
- 2 oz. Worsted weight yarn – rolled into 2 balls to be used as 2 strands. 2 oz. baby weight yarn – to be used as a single strand only. Two ¾” buttons, sewing thread and needle
- Darning needle
Sizes: Small – 8 ½”; Medium – 9 ½”; Large – 10”
Common Abbreviations Used:
- st = stitch
- ch = chain
- sc = single crochet
- hdc = half double crochet
- dc = double crochet
- sl st = slip stitch
- dec = decrease
- bpdc = back post double crochet
- fpdc = front post double crochet
- blo = back loop only
Special Stitches:
Note: Use a double strand of worsted weight yarn for sole only.
Sole- Make 2: Starting at center with two strands yarn and Size N hook, ch (14, 16, 18)
Rnd 1: Make 3 sc in 2nd ch from hook, marking first sc as beginning sc – Heel: sc in next 6 ch, hdc in next 5 ch, make 5 hdc in last ch – Toe; working along opposite side of starting chain, hdc in next 5 ch, sc in next 6 ch. Do not join. (30, 34, 38 sts.)
Rnd 2: Make 2 sc in first sc, replace marker in first sc made, (make 2 sc in next sc – for 1 sc increase) twice; sc in each of the next (11, 14, 18) sts. (Make 2 sc in next st) 5 times. (5 sts increased at the toe.) Sc in each of the next (11, 14, 18) sts. (38, 42, 46 sts.)
Rnd 3: Sc in first sc. (Make 2 sc in the next st) 4 times. . Sc in each of the next (13, 17, 21) sts. (Make 2 sc in next st, sc in next st) twice. Sc in next st. (Make 2 sc in next st, sc in next st) twice. Sc in each of the remaining (11, 14, 18) sts. Join to the top of the first ch-2 with sl st. (46, 50, 54 sts.)
Rnd 4: Ch 1, sc in joining and in each sc around increasing (2, 2, 2) sc at heel and (2, 2, 2) sc at toe. Join the first sc with sl st. (52, 54, 58 sc.) End off and weave in the end.
Preparing Sole for Instep: Fold sole in half and mark center st at heel end.
Instep Rnd 1: Note this round is worked in blo and with a single strand of baby weight yarn and size F hook. With the right side of sole facing you, join yarn in blo of the stitch before marker, ch 3, dc in same st. Make 1 dc in the blo of the next st. (Make 2 dc in the blo of the next st. Make 1 dc in the blo of the next st) around. (78, 81, 87 dc.) Join around (from back to front) top of first ch-3 with sl st.
Rnd 2: Ch 3, bpdc around each of the next 2 dc. (Fpdc around next dc. Bpdc around each of the next 2 dc) around. End with sl st around the first dc made.
Rnd 3-9: Ch 3, make bpdc around each of the next 2 bpdc. (Fpdc around next fpdc. Bpdc around each of the next 2 bpdc) around. End with sl st around the first ch-3 made. For Small Size skip the next Round and go to Rnd 5.
Rnd 10: Ch 3, (make bpdc around each of the next 2 bpdc. Make fpdc around next dc) (9) times. (Skip next 2 bpdc, make front post dc around next fpdc) 10 times. Make bpdc around each of the
next 2 bpdc. (Make fpdc around the next fpdc. Make bpdc around each of the next 2 bpdc) to end. Join the first ch-3 with sl st.
Finishing: Sc in each st around. Join the first sc with sl st. End off and weave in the end.
Buttonhole: With baby yarn ch 22. Sc st in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. End off leaving a 20” tail. Sew to Shoe as shown below.
Finishing: Sew button on opposite side of buttonhole loop making sure to reverse for left and right slippers
