Common Abbreviations
- st = stitch
- sl st= slip stitch
- ch = chain
- chs = chains
- sc = single crochet
- hdc = half double crochet
- dc = double crochet
Materials needed: 2 ounces of Black worsted weight yarn. 1 ounce of white worsted weight yarn and a size H crochet hook.
Special Stitches
Front Post Stitch-fpdc: Yo (yarn over) your hook; starting from the front, place hook from front to back to front (as per arrow in example) around the post of st (stitch) in row below; complete as a dc or hdc as indicated in pattern.
Back Post Stitch-bpdc: yo, starting from the back, place hook from back to front to back (as per arrow in example) around post of st in row below; complete as a dc or hdc as indicated in pattern.
All pattern sizes, (Small – 14”, Medium – 16” and Large – 18”) are included below. Instructions for size small are outside the brackets and sizes medium and large are inside the brackets respectively.
Boot Cuffs – Make 2
Starting at the bottom of the cuff, with Black yarn and size H hook, ch 40 [48, 56] loosely. Join the first ch with sl st to form a ring being careful not to twist the chain.
Rnd 1: Ch 3, (counts as first dc now and throughout) dc in next ch. Dc in each remaining ch around. Join to the top of first ch-3 with a sl st to complete the round. (40 [48, 56] sts)
Rnds 2-3: Ch 3, ** fpdc around next dc, bpdc around next dc. Repeat from * around. End with fpdc. Join to the top of ch-3 with sl st.
Row 4: Ch 1, sc in joining. **Ch 4, skip 3 dc. Sc in next dc.* Repeat from ** to * around. End with, ch 4 skip last 3 dc sl st in beginning sc to end round. End off black and weave in the end. (10 [12, 14] ch-4 loops made.)
Row 5-Teeth row: (Right Side) Attach white in any of the ch-4 loops. Ch 3, make 4 dc in the same st. **Ch 4, skip next ch-4 loop, make 5 dc in next ch-4 loop.* Repeat from ** to * across. End with ch 4, sl st in 3rd ch of beginning ch-3. (5 [6, 7] sets of teeth made.)
Row 6: Ch 1, sc in each of the next 5 dc. **Make 4 sc in ch-4 space. Sc in each of the next 5 dc.* Repeat from ** to * around. End with 4 sc in the last ch-4 space. Sl st into first sc to end the round.
Row 7-Nose row: Ch 1,sc in each of the next 2 sc. **Ch 4, skip 3 sc, sc in each of the next 6 sc. * Repeat from ** to * around. End with sc in each of the last 4 sc. Join the first sc with sl st. \
Row 8-Eye row – IMPORTANT – Ch 1 and turn this round: Sc in each of the first 4 sc. ** Ch 5, skip next sc, sc in ch-4 nose space. Ch 5, skip 1 sc, sc in each of the next 4 sc. * Repeat from ** to * around. End with, ch 5, skip next sc, sc in next ch-4 space. Ch 5, skip 1 sc, sl st into first sc to end the round. Turn work back to the right side.
Row 9: Ch 3, ** (make 4 dc in next ch-5 space) twic. Sl st. Dc in next st in each of the next 2 sc. Dc in next sc. * Repeat from ** to * around. End with, (make 4 dc in next ch-5 space) twice. Dc in next st. Sl st in each of the next 2 sc. Complete round with a sl st in the 3rd ch of the beginning ch-3. End off white and weave in the end.
Row 10: Attach black yarn in the back loop of the 2nd dc made on row 9. Ch 1 and sc in same back loop.
** Ch 4, skip 4 dc, sc in the back loop of the next dc. Ch 4, skip next 2 dc, all sl sts and 2 dc. Sc in the back loop of the next dc. * Repeat from ** to * around. End with, ch 4, skip 4 dc, sc in the back loop of the next dc. Ch 4, skip next 2 dc, all sl sts and 2 dc, sl st into the first sc made to end the round. (10 [12, 14] ch-4 loops made.)
Rnd 11: Ch 3, ** make 3 dc in the next ch-4 loop. Dc in next sc.* Repeat from ** to * around ending with 4 dc in the last loop. (40 [48, 56] sts)
Rnds 12-13: Ch 3, ** fpdc around next dc, bpdc around next dc. Repeat from * around. End with fpdc. Join to the top of ch-3 with sl st. End off and weave in the end.
