Gauge: 4 sts in sc = 1″, 5 rows in sc = 1″

Materials Needed:

Hot Glue gun. Piece of cardboard about 5″ wide. Size H Crochet Hook. 1 ½ oz of Kelly Green worsted weight yarn. Scraps of Light Green and Peach worsted weight yarn. Cotton ball size of stuffing. Darning needle and scissors. 2 ounces of beard colored yarn.

Hat

With Green yarn and H hook, make a magic circle.

Rnd 1. Ch 2 and make 4 sc in circle. Do not join but do mark 1st st. (4 sts made.) 

Rnd 3. Make 2 sc in each st around. (8 sts made.)

Rnds 4-9. Sc in each st around. (8 sts made.)

Rnd 10. Make 2 sc in 1st st. Sc in each of the next 7 sts. (9 sts made.)

Rnd 11. Sc in each st around. (9 sts made.)

Rnd 12. Make 2 sc in 1st st. Sc in each of the next 8 sts. (10 sts made.)

Rnd 13. Sc in each st around. (10 sts made.)

Rnd 14. Make 2 sc in 1st st. Sc in each of the next 4 sts. Make 2 sc in the next st. Sc in each of the last 4 sts. (12 sts made.)

Rnd 15. (Make 2 sc in the next st. Sc in each of the next 2 sts) around. (16 sts made ) 

 

Rnd 18. (Make 2 sc in the next st. Sc in each of the next 3 sts) around. (20 sts made )

Rnd 20. (Make 2 sc in the next st. Sc in each of the next 4 sts) around. (24 sts made ) 

Rnd 25. (Make 2 sc in the next st. Sc in each of the next 6 sts) around. (32 sts made ) 

Rnd 27. (Make 2 sc in the next st. Sc in each of the next 7 sts) around. (36 sts made )

Rnds 29 – 32. Rep rnd 26.

Rnd 33. (Sc in each of the next 11 sts, make 2 sc in next st) around. Do not make last inc. (38 sts made.) 

Ch 2 and dc in same st. Dc in each of the next 4 sts. Make 2 dc in the next st. (Dc in each of the next 3 sts, make 2 dc in the next st) around. Join to 1st dc with sl st. (47 sts made.) End off and weave in end. Set piece aside.

Beard

Grab your 5″ piece of cardboard.

With beard colored yarn, wrap around cardboard about 150 times.

Cut a piece of same colored yarn about 36″ long. Fold yarn in half and draw under all the top loops with a tail on each side.

Securely tie the two ends (tails) tog and pull off cardboard.

Cut bottom loops of beard.

Nose

Rnd 1. With size H hook and Peach yarn, ch 2 or make magic circle. Make 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook (or in magic circle.) Do NOT join, but do mark 1st st. (6 sc.)

Rnd 2. Make (2 sc in next sc) around. (12 sc.)

Rnd 3. Make (sc in next sc, make 2 sc in next sc) around. (18 sc.)

Rnds 4 – 5. Sc in each of the 18 sts around.

Rnd 6. (Sc next 2 sts tog. Sc in next st) around. Join to 1st sc made. (12 sc.)

Rnd 7. (Sc next 2 sts tog) around. Join snd end off weaving in end. Stuff lightly if desired and glue to beard and hat as shown below.

Small Shamrock for Boy make 3

Rnd 1. With light green yarn and H hook, make a magic circle. (Ch 3, make 2 trc in circle. Ch 3, sl st into ring) 3 more times. Ch 6 and sl st in 2nd chain from hook and in each ch leading back to center. Join with sl st into center. Pull tail to tighten. End off weaving in end.

Glue 1 to hat as shown below.

For other 2 small Shamrocks, place wrong sides together. Cut a piece of light green yarn about 36″ and fold in half. 1. Insert hook through stem tips as shown below. 2. Thread over hook with the folded 36″ yarn. 3. Using both strands, ch 4. Tie and sew to hat. End off and weave in all ends.

Larger Shamrock for Boy make 1

Rnd 1. With light green yarn and H hook, ch 4, make 3 trc in 1st ch. Ch 3, sl st back into 1st chain, [Ch 4, make 3 trc in 1st ch. Ch 3, sl st into 1st ch made.] rep 3 times, or until 4 leaves have been made. Ch 8 and sl st in 2nd ch from hook and each rem ch.

Rnd 2. [Sl st in 1st 3 chs, make 3 dc in same st. Sl in next st, make 3 dc in next st. Sl st in each of the next 3 chs] rep all 4 leaves are complete. At end of 4th leaf, make a long sl st into beg st. Ch 8, sl st in 2nd ch from hook and in each rem ch. End with long sl st back into center. End off. Glue to beard as shown below.

Rnd 1. With peach and I hook make a magic circle. Ch 2 and make 6 sc in circle. Do not join. 

Rnds 3 – 7. Sc in each of the 12 sts around. Join peach to beg sc. End off leaving a long tail. With tail, sew opening closed.

Glue hand to back of beard and to the Shamrock as shown below. Place front of beard back down. (Glue a few strands over hand.)
