Gauge: 4 sts in sc = 1″, 5 rows in sc = 1″
Materials Needed:
Hot Glue gun. Piece of cardboard about 5″ wide. Sizes H and 4 Crochet Hooks.
1 ½ oz of Red worsted weight yarn. Scraps of Peach, Black and Pink worsted weight yarn.
Scraps of black cotton crochet thread #10. Cotton ball size of stuffing. Darning needle and scissors.
2 ounces of beard colored yarn.
Hat
Starting at tip. With Red yarn and H hook, make a magic circle.
Rnd 1. Ch 2 and make 4 sc in circle. Do not join but do mark 1st st. Tighten circle(4 sts made.)
Rnd 2. Sc in each of the 4 sc around.
Rnd 3. Make 2 sc in each st around. (8 sts made.)
Rnds 4-9. Sc in each st around. (8 sts made.)
Rnd 10. Make 2 sc in 1st st. Sc in each of the next 7 sts. (9 sts made.)
Rnd 11. Sc in each st around. (9 sts made.)
Rnd 12. Make 2 sc in 1st st. Sc in each of the next 8 sts. (10 sts made.)
Rnd 13. Sc in each st around. (10 sts made.)
Rnd 14. Make 2 sc in 1st st. Sc in each of the next 4 sts. Make 2 sc in the next st.

End off and weave in end. Set piece aside.
Beard
Grab your 5″ piece of cardboard. General Instructions. (Use gray yarn, rust shown for demonstration
purposes only.)
With beard colored yarn, wrap around cardboard about 150 times.
Cut a piece of same colored yarn about 36″ long. Fold yarn in half and draw under all the top loops with
a tail on each side.
Securely tie the two ends (tails) tog and pull off cardboard.
Cut bottom loops of beard.
Spread top of beard out and sew to inside of hat at brim seam.
Nose
Rnd 1. With size H hook and Peach yarn, ch 2 or make magic circle. Make 6 sc in 2nd ch from
hook (or in magic circle.) Do NOT join, but do mark 1st st. (6 sc.)
Rnd 2. Make (2 sc in next sc) around. (12 sc.)
Rnd 3. Make (sc in next sc, make 2 sc in next sc) around. (18 sc.)
Rnds 4 – 5. Sc in each of the 18 sts around.
Rnd 6. (Sc next 2 sts tog. Sc in next st) around. Join to 1st sc made. (12 sc.)
Rnd 7. (Sc next 2 sts tog) around. Join snd end off weaving in end. Stuff lightly if desired
and glue to beard and hat as shown below.
Small Heart – Make as many as needed to scater around hat. (I made 15.)
Rnd 1. With black thread and size 4 hook, make a magic circle. Ch 4 and make (3 dc, 3 hdc,
ch 1, dc, ch 1, 3 hdc, 3 dc and sl st into ring. Tighten ring. End off weaving in end.
Glue 1 to hat as shown below.
Medium Size Heart – Make 2.
Rnd 1. With Pink yarn and H hook, make a magic circle. Ch 4, in circle make (3 trc, 3 dc,
ch 1 trc, ch 1, 3 dc, 3 trc, ch 3 and sl st. Tighten ring. End off weaving in end.
Hanger for hearts. Leaving a 6″ tail, make a ch of 16. End off leaving another 6″ tail.
Using tails tie to center of hearts and weave in ends.
Fold and sew to tip of hat as shown below.
Larger Heart for – make 1
Rnd 1. With Red/Pink yarn and H hook, make a magic circle and ch 4. In circle make (3 trc, 3 dc,
ch 1, trc, ch 1 3 dc, 3 trc, ch 3 and sl st.)
Rnd 2. Sl st in next 3 chs, make sc and hdc in 4th ch from hook. (Make 2 hdc in next st) 3 times.
Hdc in each of the next 4 sts. Ch 1 and dc in center trc. Ch 1, sk ch1 and hdc in each of the next 4 sts.
(Make 2 hdc in next dc) 3 times. In 1so ch of ch3 from rnd 1 make hdc and sc. End off and weave in end.
With black yarn or thread, embroider an “X” and “O” as shown below.
Lift top layers of hair on beard and glue to gnome as shown below.
Hands – Make 2
Rnd 1. With peach and I hook make a magic circle. Ch 2 and make 6 sc in circle. Do not join.
Rnd 2. Make 2 sc in each st around. (12 sc made.)
Rnds 3 – 7. Sc in each of the 12 sts around. Join peach to beg sc. End off leaving a long tail.
With tail, sew opening closed. Lift front of gnomes beard out of the way. Glue hand to back of beard and to the Heart as shown above. Place front of beard back down. (Glue a few strands over hand.)
Antenna – Make 2
With black yarn and size H hook make a magic circle.
Rnd 1. Ch 2 and make 6 sc in ring.
Rnd 2. Make 2 sc in each st around. Tighten ring.
Rnd 3-4. Sc in each of the 18 sts around.
Rnd 5. (Sc next 2 sts tog) around. (6 sc made.)
Rnd 6. (Sc next 2 sts tog)3 times. Sc end closed.
Ch 10, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each rem ch. Sc into ball. Turn and sl st down
antenna. End off leaving a long tail. Set aside.
Sew both to hat as shown on cover.
