Abbreviations Used:

Materials Needed:
All Mittens: Worsted weight yarn and Size G crochet hook and two decorative buttons.
Pink and Purple Mittens: 2 ounces Pink yarn and 1 ounce purple yarn.
Yellow and Blue Mittens: 1 ½ ounces Blue yarn and 1 ½ ounces Yellow yarn.
Pink and Green Mittens: 2 ounces Green yarn, ½ ounce Pink yarn and ½ ounce nubby Pink, Green and White novelty yarn.
Special Stitches:
Back Post Stitch: Yo, starting from the back, place hook from back to front to back (as per arrow in example) around post of st in row below; complete as a dc.
Front Post Stitch: Yo (yarn over) your hook; starting from the front, place hook from front to back to front (as per arrow in example) around the post of st (stitch) in row below; complete as a dc.
PINK AND PURPLE MITTEN – Medium Size measures 3 ½” across palm and 6” from tip of fingers to cuff – Large Size in parentheses measures 4” across palm and 7” from tip of fingers to cuff.
Front-Row 1: With Pink yarn and size G crochet hook, loosely ch 13 (15). Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. (12 (14) sc.) Ch 1, turn.
Row 2: Sc in each sc across. Ch 1, turn.
Repeat Row 2 until piece measures 4 ½ “, (5 ½”). About 17 total rows for medium and 21 rows for large. Next Row-Begin decreasing for rounded top-Row 1: Sc dec over first 2 sts. Sc in each st until the last 2 sts. Sc dec over last 2 sts. (10 (12) sc.) Ch 1, turn.
Row 2: Sc in each sc across. Ch 1, turn.
Rows 3-4: Repeat rows 1 and 2 of rounded top. Ch 1, turn.
Rows 5-6: Repeat Row 1 of rounded top. (4 (6) sc left at end of row 6.) End off and weave in end and set piece aside. Mitten Back Bottom-Row 1: With Pink yarn and size G hook, repeat rows 1 and 2 of Mitten front until piece measures 2” (2 ½)“. About 8 (10) rows. Ch 1, turn.
Begin Thumb-Row 1: Sl st in first sc. Ch 1, sc in next 5 (7) sc. Ch 1, turn.
Row 2: Sc in each of the 5 (7) sc across. Ch 1, turn.
Rows 3-7: Repeat Begin Thumb row 2. Ch 1, turn.
Row 8: Sc dec over first 2 sc. Sc in next 1 (3) sc. Sc dec over last 2 sts. (3 (5) sc.) Ch 1, turn.
Row 9: Sc in each of the 3 (5) sc across. For small medium size, end off and weave in end. Set piece aside. Large Size-Rows 10-11: Repeat rows 8 and 9. End off and set aside.
Mitten Back Top-Row 1: With Purple yarn and size G crochet hook, ch 13 (15). Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. (12 (14) sc.) Ch 1, turn.
Row 2: Sc in each sc across. Ch 1, turn.
Repeat Row 2 until piece measures 2 1/4“ (2 ¾”) . About 9 (11) rows. Ch 1, turn.
Rounded Top: Repeat rows 1-6 of Mitten Front “Begin decreasing for rounded top” End off after row 6 and weave in end.
Begin Thumb-Row 1: Turn purple piece upside down so that the rounded side is towards you. Attach yarn in 2nd ch from right on foundation ch. Ch 1, sc in same st and in next 4 (6) sts. Ch 1, turn. (5 (7) sc.)
Repeat rows 1-9 of back mitten bottom thumb for medium size and rows 1-11 for large size. Assembling Pieces: You should now have 3 mitten pieces.
Right Mitten: Pin top and bottom back pieces together as shown in photo. Attach pink yarn in first missed st as shown in photo with a sl st. Ch 1, working through both thicknesses, sc in joining. Sc evenly around evenly around thumb and across next side. End off and weave in end. Pin finished back piece to front piece as shown in photo. Attach pink yarn with sl st in first side st at bottom right. Ch 1, working through both thicknesses, sc in joining. Continue working sc evenly around sides and top joining the two pieces together. End off at opposite side at bottom and weave in end. Left Mitten: Pin top to bottom with thumb opposite as for right mitten. Attach yarn at right straight edge. Sc evenly through both thicknesses across palm and around thumb ending in skipped sc at thumbs edge. End off and finish mitten as for right mitten.
Mitten Cuff-Rnd 1: Attach Purple yarn in any ch at bottom of mitten. Ch 2 (counts as dc here and throughout.) make 19 (21) more evenly space dc around cuff, skipping sts as needed. Join to top of first ch-2 with sl st. Rnd 2: Ch 2, *bpdc around next st, fpdc around next st. Continue from * around until last st. Bpdc around last st. Join to top of first ch-2 with sl st.
Rnds 3-10: Repeat Rnd 2.
Rnd 11: Ch 1, sc in joining and in next st. Ch 3, sl st in 3rd ch from hook (Picot made). *Sc in next 2 sts, picot. Repeat from * around. End with sl st in first sc. End off and weave in end.
Finishing: Fold cuff up and sew a decorative button at outside edge.
BLUE AND YELLOW MITTENS-Small Size measures 3” across palm and 5 1/2” from tip of fingers to cuff – Medium Size measures 3 ½” across palm and 6” from tip of fingers to cuff – Large Size in parentheses measures 4” across palm and 7” from tip of fingers to cuff.
Rnd 1: Starting at cuff edge , with Yellow yarn and size G hook, loosely ch 18, (20, 22) being careful not to twist ch, join to first ch to form ring. Ch 2, (counts as first dc now and throughout,) dc in each ch around. (18 dc for small, 20 dc for medium and 22 dc for large.)
Rnd 2: Ch 2, *bpdc around next st, fpdc around next st. Continue from * around until last st. Bpdc around last st. Join to top of first ch-2 with sl st.
Small and Medium sizes-Rnds 3-5: Repeat Rnd 2. End off Yellow and weave in end.
Large Size-Rnds 3-6: Repeat Rnd 2. End off Yellow and weave in end.
Body of Mitten Row 1: Attach Blue Yarn with a sl st in any st. Make 22 (26, 30) evenly space sc around cuff. Join to first sc with sl st.
Rnd 2: Ch 1, sc in each sc around. Repeat rnd 2 until piece measures 2” (2 ¼”, 2 ½”.)
Make Opening for Thumb: Ch 1, sc in next 3 sc. Ch 5 (6, 7) for thumb opening, skip 5 (6, 7) sc. Sc in each remaining sc around. Join to first sc with sl st.
Next Row: Ch 1, sc in next 3 sc, sc in each ch made in row above. Sc in each remaining sc around. Top of Mitten: Ch 1, sc in each sc around until piece measures 2 ¼” (2 ½”, 2 ¾”.) End off blue and weave in end. Mitten Tip-Rnd 1: Join Yellow yarn with sl st in any sc. Ch 1, sc in same st and in each sc around. Small-Rows 2-3: Ch 1, sc in each sc around. Medium-Rows 2-4: Ch 1, sc in each sc around. Large Size-Rows 2-5: Ch 1, sc in each sc around.
Decrease Row 1: Ch 1, *sc in next 3 sc, dec over next 2 sc. Repeat from * around. Join to first sc with sl st. Row 2: Ch 1, *sc in next 2 sc, dec over next 2 sc. Repeat from * around. Join to first sc with sl st. Row 3: Repeat Row 2. End off leaving a 12” tail.
Finishing Tip: Thread darning needle with 12” tail of yarn and draw though all the stitches left on row 3 into a tight circle. Fasten securely and weave in end.
Thumb-Rnd 1: Attach Yellow yarn in any st on thumb opening made earlier. Make 10 (12, 14) sts around opening. Join to first sc with sl st.
Rows 2-7(8,9): Ch 1, sc in each sc around.
Decrease Row 1: Ch 1, *sc in two next sc, sc dec over next 2 sc. Repeat from * around.
Row 2: Repeat Decrease Row 1 above. End off leaving a 12” tail.
Finishing Tip: Thread darning needle with 12” tail of yarn and draw though all the stitches left on last into a tight circle. Fasten securely and weave in end.

Rnds 2-5: Ch 1, sc in each st around. Ch 1, turn. 3
Rnd6: Attach Pink yarn in any st. Ch 2 ( counts as first dc, here and throughout.) Make 17 (19, 21) more dc around. Note: You will be decreasing 4 (6, 8) sts for a total of 18 (20, 22) sts.
Rnds 7-8 for Small and Medium Rnds 7-9 for Large: Ch 2, *bpdc around next st, fpdc around next st. Repeat from * around. End off Pink and weave in end.
Body of Mitten-Rnd 1: Join Green yarn in any st. Inc 4 (6, 8) sts evenly around mitten in the following pattern. Ch 1, *sc in next st, dc in next st. Repeat from * around increasing sts as indicated above. Total of 22 (26, 30) sts. Join to first sc with sl st.
Rnd 2: Ch 2, sc in next dc. *dc in next sc, sc in next dc. Repeat from * around. Join to top of first ch-2 with sl st. Rnd 3: Ch 1, *sc in next dc, dc in next sc. Repeat from * around. Join to first sc with sl st.
All Sizes Rnds 4-5: Repeat Rnds 2 and 3. For Medium and Large size repeat rnds 2 and 3 again. Make Opening for Thumb: Ch 2, sc in next st, ch 5 (6, 7) for thumb opening, skip 5 (6, 7) sc. Continue in pattern around. (sc in dc, dc in sc.) Join to top of first ch-2 with sl st.
Next Rnd: Ch 1, sc in first dc, dc in next sc. Continue in pattern over the 5 (6, 7) chs and around mitten. Join to first sc with sl st.
Top of Mitten: Repeat Rnds 2 and 3 until piece measures 3” (3 ½”, 3 ¾”.)
Decrease Row 1: Ch 1, *sc in next 3 sc, dec over next 2 sc. Repeat from * around. Join to first sc with sl st. Row 2: Ch 1, *sc in next 2 sc, dec over next 2 sc. Repeat from * around. Join to first sc with sl st. Row 3: Repeat Row 2. End off leaving a 12” tail.
Thumb-Rnd 1: Attach Green yarn in any st on thumb opening made earlier. Make 10 (12, 14) sts around opening. Join to first sc with sl st.
