PROJECT ADVANCED: Mug Cozy
Materials Needed: ½ ounces “Sugar’n Cream” blue worsted weight cotton yarn. Size G crochet hook. 1 1/2” Button. Needle and thread to match button. Darning needle. Coffee Cup and measuring tape.
Measure around the middle of the coffee cup and subtract 1.” Write this measurement down for later. Example: If Coffee cup measures 9 ½ “subtract 1” and write down 8 ½”.
Row 1: Ch 8, make hdc in 3rd ch from hook and in each of the next 5 chs. (6 hdc made.) Ch 2, turn.
Row 2: Make a hdc inc in first hdc. Hdc in each of the next 4 hdc. Make a hdc inc in last hdc. (8 hdc made.) Ch 2, turn.
Row 3: Make a hdc inc in first hdc. Hdc in each of the next 6 hdc. Make a hdc inc in the last hdc. (10 hdc made.) Ch 2, turn.
Row 4: Hdc in each of the 10 hdc across. Ch 2, turn.
Next Rows: Repeat Row 4 until the piece is the measurement you wrote down earlier.
Row 1: Decreasing Row: Make a hdc dec over the first 2 hdc. Hdc in each of the next 6 hdc. Make a hdc dec over the last 2 hdc. (8 hdc made.) Ch 2, turn.
Row 2: Make a hdc dec over the first 2 hdc. Hdc in each of the next 4 hdc. Make a hdc dec over the last 2 hdc. (6 hdc made.) Ch 2, turn.
Row 3: Make a hdc dec over the first 2 hdc. Hdc in each of the next 2 hdc. Make a hdc dec over the last 2 hdc. (4 hdc made.) Ch 2, turn.
Row 4-5: Hdc in each of the 4 hdc across. Ch 2, turn.
Last Row: Ch 5 more in addition to the ch-2 turning ch. (You should have 7 ch on the hook.) End off leaving a 10” tail. Skip each of the next 3 hdc and sew the ch-7 to the opposite side to form a button loop. End off and weave in the end. Sew button securely to opposite side.
