Today’s Free pattern is for a Camelcorn. This is a cute little Camel Unicorn that would delight any child.

Abbreviations Used

mr = magic ring – Example: mr 6 would be a magic ring with 6 sc worked into it

ch=ch

st=st

sl st = slip stitch

sc = single crochet

hdc = half double crochet 

dc = double crochet 

trc = treble crochet

inc = single crochet 2 together stitches for a decrease

dc inc = double crochet 2 stitches together for a decrease

[ sc, inc ]x 2 = repeat what’s in the square brackets [ ] two times => sc, inc, sc, inc

blo = back loop only

flo = front loop only.

even = do not inc or dec simply sc in each st around

fo = finish off

Working in the Round Notes: This patttern assumes you know how to make a Magic Ring and invisible joins. If you do not just search for directions online. Do NOT join rounds and do not chain 1 at the beginning of rounds..

How to Read an Amigurumi pattern.

Amigurumi patterns are usually wirtten for single crochet patterns unless otherwise stated. It is helpful to know how to do a Magic Ring and an Invisvible join.

Materials needed:

fiberfil, eyes, 2 ozs of tan  worsted weight yarn, small amounts of yellow, pink, blue and purple  #10 cotton crochet thread.  Small amounts of Lion Brand #2 yarn in various colors. (I like to use Bonbons which can be purchased on Amazon. G and 7 crochet hooks.  OPT: stiff brush, darning needle, scissors

Hump and Body

1. With Tan yarn and G Hook make a mr of  8 sc. (8)

11. even. (24) Place eye markers on this rnd. One in the 3rd st after the marker, and one in the 10th st after the beginning marker.

fo leaving tail,  stuff and close the hole using the tail, stuff and set aside. OPT. Brush outside with stff brush is desired to create a soft fur.

Ears – Make 2

Row 1.  mr of 6 sc.  Ch 1 and turn. Sc in each of the 6 sc. End off leaving a long tail.

Thread tail into needle and gather the bottom of ear.

    

Pin in desired postition and then sew to top of head as shown below.

Nose and Mouth

With Pink yarn and darning needle, embroider mouth as shown below.

Set piece aside.

Tail

1. mr of 6 sc. (6)

fo, leaving a tail  and set aside. OPT. Brush outside with stff brush is desired to create a soft fur.

Assembling

Pin and sew neck to body as shown below.

Pin and sew head to neck as shown below.

 Pin and sew tail to body as shown below.

Pin and sew front legs as shown below.

Pin and sew back legs as shown below. Set the piece aside.

Horn

Use size 7 steel crochet hook and #10 yellow cotton crochet thread.

1. mr of 6 sc. (6)

fo leaving a tail and sew to top of head between ears.

OPT: I like to take a double strand of yellow thread and spiral it around the horn. Set aside.

Flowers – Make as many as you wish.

With #10 crochet thread and size 7 hook make a mr. Ch 1 and [sc in ring, ch 2 and make 5 dc in ring. ch 2] x 5. End with sl st into 1st sc made. End off leaving a long tail and sew to Camelcorn’s head. With yellow thread add a french knot to the center. 

Halter

With G hook and Bonbon color of your choice, make a ch that will fit around the camel’s snout. Secure it in place.

With the same color and G hook make a ch that will fit around head and attach to both sides of the halter.

Reins – Make 2

With same color as halter  and G hook, make 2 chs 20 chs long, and attach to side of bridal as shown below.

Bridal Fasteners

With yellow #10 thread and size 7 hook, make a mr with 6 sc. Make 2 sc in each st around. Join and fo. Sew to theside of the Bridal as shown below.

Saddle

1. With Pink Bonbon  yarn and G Hook make a mr of  8 sc. (8)

2. inc 8.  (16)

3, even. (16)

Change to a different bonbon color.

4. [sc, inc] x 8. (24)

5. [sc 2, inc] x 8. (32)

Change to a different bonbon color.

6-7. even. (32)

Change to a different bonbon color.

8. [sc 3, inc] x 8. (40)

Join, fo and weave in end.

Saddle fringe

Cut about 35 pieces of different colors of yarn and make a fringe around the saddle leaving about 7 sts free where the neck will go. Trim fringe.

Pin to the camel’s hump and sew in place.
