Make this cute little bottle (jar, wine, can etc) to add a smile to your Thanksgiving

- Size: 11″ tall by 5″ wide.
- Gauge: 4 sts = 1″, 4 rows = 1″
Materials Needed:
Hot Glue gun. Piece of cardboard about 5″ wide. Size I Crochet Hook. 1 ½ oz of Light Brown worsted weight yarn. Scraps Yellow and Red worsted weight yarn. # 3 or 4 cotton crochet. A cotton ball the size of stuffing. Darning needle and scissors. 2 ounces of beard colored yarn (Light Brown Shown.) All yarns used for this project were Red Heart #4.
Top
With Light Brown and H hook, make a magic circle.
Rnd 1. Ch 1 and make 6 sc in the circle, do NOT join, but do mark 1st st. (6 sts made.)
Rnd 2. Make 2 sc in each st around. (12 sts made.)
Rnd 3. (Make 2 sc in the next st. Sc in each of the next 2 sts) around. (16 sts made )
Rnd 4. Sc in each st around. (16 sts made.)
Rnd 5. (Make 2 sc in the next st. Sc in each of the next 3 sts) around. (20 sts made )
Rnd 6. (Make 2 sc in the next st. Sc in each of the next 4 sts) around. (24 sts made ) Rnd 10. Sc in each st around. (24 sts made.)
Rnd 7. (Make 2 sc in the next st. Sc in each of the next 5 sts) around. (28 sts made )
Rnd 8. (Make 2 sc in the next st. Sc in each of the next 6 sts) around. (32 sts made )
Rnd 9. Sc in each st around. (32 sts made.)
Rnd 10. (Make 2 sc in the next st. Sc in each of the next 7 sts) around. (36 sts made ) Rnd 11. (Sc in each of the next 11 sts, make 2 sc in next st) around. Do not make last inc. (38 sts made.)
Rnds 12-13. Sc in each st around. (38 sts made.)
Turning Rnd 14 – Brim. This Rnd will be worked in the front loop only (blo.) Ch 2 and dc in flo of same st. Dc in the next 4 sts. Make 2 dc in the flo of the next st. (Dc in flo of each of the next 3 sts, make 2 dc in flo of the next st) around. Join the 1st dc with sl st. (47 sts made.) End off and weave in the end. Set the piece aside.
Beard
Use the same Brown to make your beard.
(This is just one way to make the beard, you may choose any way you wish.)
Grab your 5″ piece of cardboard.
With beard colored yarn, wrap around cardboard about 150 times.
Cut a piece of the same colored yarn about 36″ long. Fold yarn in half and draw under all the top loops with a tail on each side.
Securely tie the two ends (tails) tog and pull off cardboard.
Cut bottom loops of beard.
Nose
Rnd 1. With size H hook and Yellow yarn, ch 2 or make a magic circle. Make 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook (or in magic circle.) Do NOT join, but do mark 1st st. (6 sc.)
Rnd 2. Make (2 sc in next sc) around. (12 sc.)
Rnd 3. Make (sc in next sc, make 2 sc in next sc) around. (18 sc.)
Rnds 4 – 5. Sc in each of the 18 sts around.
Rnd 6. (Sc next 2 sts tog. Sc in next st) around. Join to the 1st sc made on this rnd. (12 sc.)
Rnd 7. (Sc next 2 sts tog) around. Join and end off weaving in the end. Set aside.
Assembling
Using glue gun, lift hat brim at Front and glue only the top of the nose to beard.
Turkey Tail
Row 1. With Brown yarn and I hook make a magic circle. Ch 4 (counts as 1st dc) and make 4 dc in the ring. (5 dc made.)
Row 2. Ch 3 and turn. Make a dc in the same dc for an inc. (Make 2 dc in the next dc) 4 times. (10 dc made.)
End off Light Brown and weave in the end.
Begin Tail Feathers – Change Yarn to White Color
Row 1. Ch 3, and (dc, ch 1 and make 2 dc) in the same dc, [Sk 2 dcs, in the next dc make (2 dc, ch 1, and 2 dc)] repeat 2 more times. (16 dc made.) End off and weave in the end.
Join Yellow yarn in the last ch sp made with a sl st.
Row 2. (Ch 3, dc, ch 1, and make 2 dc) in the same space. [In the next ch sp make (2 dc, ch 1, and 2 dc)] rep between brackets 2 times. (16 dc made.) End off Yellow and weave in the end. Join rust colored yarn in the last ch sp made with a sl st.
Row 3. (Ch 3, make 2 dc, ch 1, and 3 dc) in the same space. [In the next ch sp make (3 dc, ch 1, and 3 dc)] rep 2 times. (24 dc made.) End off rust and weave in the end.
Join White colored yarn in the last ch sp made with a sl st.
Row 4. (Ch 3, make 3 dc, ch 1, and 4 dc) in the same space. [In the next ch sp make (4 dc, ch 1, and 4 dc)] rep 2 times. (32 dc made.) End off White and weave in the end.
Change Yarn to rust Color
Row 5. (Ch 3, and make 8 dc) in the same space, [Make 9 dc in the next ch space] repeat 2 times. End off and weave in the end. (36 dc made.)
Tail Outline
Decide Which side will be your right side and attach Dark Brown yarn as shown below. (Ch 2 and sc between next dc groups) 5 times.
Sc in each of the next 9 dcs on Feather.
Sc evenly across the bottom.
Sc in the 9 dcs across the top of the Feather and then down the feather as before and then end off and weave in the end.
Note: you will now be outlining each individual feather and ending off and weaving in the end in the following manner 7 more times.
Next feather. Attach yarn as shown below. Sc between feathers as before.
End off and weave in the end. Repeat all feathers are complete.
To finish, attach yarn as before, but only Sc across the top of the Feather and join to the next outlined feather. End off and weave in the end.
Set the piece aside.
Wings – Make 2
Row 1. With Dark Brown, ch 12, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each of the next 10 chs. Ch 1 and turn. (11 sc made)
Row 2. Sc in each of the next 9 sts. Ch 1 and turn.
Row 3. Sc in each of the next 9 sts. Ch 1 and turn.
Row 4. Sc in each of the next 7 sts. Ch 1 and turn. Row 5. Sc in each of the next 7 sts. Ch 1 and turn to work over the raw edges of rows 1-5.
Row 6. Make 5 sc across rows.
Begin working. Over the foundation ch.
Row 7. Hdc 1st 2 sts tog. Hdc in the same st. Hdc in next 5 chs. Sc last 2 sts tog. Join to the very 1st made on row 1. End off and weave in the end.
Beard – Wattle
With Red yarn and size I crochet hook ch 12.
Row 1. Sc in the 2nd ch from the hook and in each of the next 6 chs. Hdc in each ch until the last ch. In the last ch make 6 dc and 1 hdc. Working on the opposite side of the ch. Sc in the next st and sl st into the next st. End off leaving a long tail. Position beard and using long tail, sew to the side of the nose.
Top Red /Comb
Rnd 1. With Red make a magic circle. Ch 1 and make 3 sc in the ring. Ch 3 and turn
Rnd 2. Hdc in the 2nd ch from the hook. Sl st in the same st as the beg ch 3. Ch 4, hdc in the 2nd ch from the hook and in each of the next t 2 chs. Sl st into the next ch on the beg ch 4. Ch 3 and hdc in the 2nd ch from the hook. Sc in the next ch and sl st into the 3rd ch on the beg ch 4. End off. Weave in the ends.
Assembling
(I Hot glue piece but feel free to sew or use your favorite glue.)
Spread out the beard, shape the nose as wanted and glue To the beard and hat.
With The beard still spread, lift up the bead on both sides of the nose and glue the wings to the beard as shown below.
Put the beard back down and glue the top layer sections of the beard in place if needed. Glue the Wattle to the beard and nose as shown below.
Glue Comb to the top of the hat as shown below.
Tail Feathers: Glue to the center back of the hat back as shown below. Being careful not to get any glue in the beard.
Place it over a bottle and enjoy.
