Materials Needed:
Hot Glue gun. Piece of cardboard about 5″ wide. Size H or I Crochet Hook. 2 oz of Light Brown worsted weight yarn. 1 oz of Ivory Colored yarn, and scraps of Dark Brown and Pink worsted weight yarn. Cotton ball size of stuffing. Darning needle and scissors. 2 ounces of beard colored yarn (Light Brown Shown.) All yarns used for this project were Red Heart #4.
Hat
With Light Brown and H or I hook, make a magic circle.
Rnd 1. Ch 1 and make 6 sc in the circle, do NOT join, but do mark 1st st. (6 sts made.)
Rnd 2. Make 2 sc in each st around. (12 sts made.)
Rnd 3. (Make 2 sc in the next st. Sc in the next st) . (18 sts made )
Rnd 4. Sc in each st around. (18 sts made.)
Rnd 5. Make 2 sc in the 1st st. Sc in each of the next 9 sts. Make 2 sc in the next st. Sc in each rem st. (20 sts made )
Rnd 6. (Make 2 sc in the next st. Sc in each of the next 4 sts) around. (24 sts made )
Rnd 7. (Make 2 sc in the next st. Sc in each of the next 5 sts) around. (28 sts made )
Rnd 8. (Make 2 sc in the next st. Sc in each of the next 6 sts) around. (32 sts made )
Rnd 9. Sc in each st around. (32 sts made.)
Rnd 10. (Make 2 sc in the next st. Sc in each of the next 7 sts) around. (36 sts made )
Rnd 11. (Sc in each of the next 11 sts, make 2 sc in next st) around. Do not make last inc. (38 sts made.)
Rnds 12-13. Sc in each st around. (38 sts made.)
Turning Rnd 14 – Brim. This Rnd will be worked in the front loop only (blo.) Ch 2 and dc in flo of same st. Dc in the next 4 sts. Make 2 dc in the flo of the next st. (Dc in flo of each of the next 3 sts, make 2 dc in flo of the next st) around. Join the 1st dc with sl st. (47 sts made.) End off and weave in the end. Set the piece aside.
Beard
(This is just one way to make the beard, you may choose any way you wish.)
Grab your 5″ piece of cardboard.
With beard colored yarn, wrap around cardboard about 150 times.
Cut a piece of the same colored yarn about 36″ long. Fold yarn in half and draw under all the top loops with a tail on each side.
Securely tie the two ends (tails) tog and pull off cardboard.
Cut bottom loops of beard.
Spread the top of the beard out and sew to the inside of the hat at brim seam.
Nose
Rnd 1. With size H hook and Tan yarn, ch 2 or make a magic circle. Make 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook (or in magic circle.) Do NOT join, but do mark 1st st. (6 sc.)
Rnd 2. Make (2 sc in next sc) around. (12 sc.)
Rnd 3. Make (sc in next sc, make 2 sc in next sc) around. (18 sc.)
Rnds 4 – 5. Sc in each of the 18 sts around.
Rnd 6. (Sc next 2 sts tog. Sc in next st) around. Join to the 1st sc made on this rnd. (12 sc.)
Rnd 7. (Sc next 2 sts tog) around. Join and end off weaving in the end. Set aside.
Ears – Make 2 Dark Brown Ears
Ear
Row 1. With Dark Brown Yarn and size I hook, ch 4, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. Ch 1, turn. ( 3 sc made.)
Row 2. Sc in each sc across. Ch 1, turn. (3 sc made.)
Row 3. Sc in first sc, make 2 sc in next sc. Sc in last sc. Ch 1, turn. (4 sc made.)
Row 4. Sc in each sc across. Ch 1, turn. (4 sc made.)
Row 5. Sc in first sc, (make 2 sc in next sc) twice. Sc in last sc. Ch 1, turn. (6 sc made.) Row 6-9. Sc in each sc across. Ch 1, turn. (6 sc made.)
Row 10. Sc in each of the 1st 2 sc, (make 2 sc in next sc) twice. Sc in last 2 scs. Ch 1, turn. (8 sc made.) Row 11 – 12. Sc in each sc across. Ch 1, turn. (8 sc made.)
Row 13. Dec over first 2 sc. Sc in each of the next 4 sc. Dec over the last 2 sts. (6 sc made.) Ch 1 and turn.
Row 14. Dec over first 2 sc. Sc in each of the next 2 sc. Dec over the last 2 sts. (4 sc made.) Ch 1 and turn Row 11. (Dec over next 2 sc) twice. Ch 1 and turn to work up the raw side.
Finishing. Make 12 sc up the 1st raw side. Ch 1 and make 4 sc across the top of the ear. Ch 1 and make 12 sc down the next raw side. Join to the 1st sc made on bottom.
Sc evenly around the entire ear. Make increases as needed to keep the ear flat.
Tongue
Row With Pink yarn and size I hook, ch 4, sc in 2nd ch from hook. Make 4 dc in the next ch. Sc in last st. Ch 1, turn. (8 sts made.)
Row 3. Sc in 1st st. Hdc in next st. (Make 3 dc in next st) twice. Hdc in next st. Sc in last st. Turn to top
Ch 1 and make 4 sc across top. Join the 1st st made with sl st. End off and weave in the end. Set aside
Assembling
Using glue gun, lift hat brim at Front and glue only the top of the nose to beard.
Glue tongue under nose and to the beard.
Sew ears to back of hat.
Antler – Make 1 with Ivory Yarn
Rnd 1. Make a magic circle. In circle ch 1 and make 6 sc. Join to the 1st sc with sl st. (6 sts made.)
Rnd 2. Ch 1 and make 2 sc in each st around. Join to 1st sc with sl st in blo. (12 sts made.)
Rnd 3. Ch 1 and sc in the blo of each of the 12 sts around. Do NOT join, but do mark 1st st.
9Rnd 4. Working through both loops, sc in each of the 12 sts around.
Rnd 5. Sc 1st 2 sts tog. Sc in each rem st. (11 sc made.)
Rnd 6. Sc in each of the 11 sts around.
Rnd 7. Sc in each of the next 3 sts. Sc next 2 sts tog. Sc in each of the rem sts. (10 sts made.)
Rnd 8. Sc in each of the 10 sts around. Begin Stuffing as you go.

Rnds 4 – 6. Sc in each of the 9 sts around. Join and end off leaving a long tail. Sew to antler as shown below.
Pin and sew securely to the top of the hat as shown below. Take a piece of dark yarn and tie around the center of (tree branch antler) as shown on cover.
