PROJECT ADVANCED: Beanie Hat for Teen or Adult
Materials Needed: 1 ½ ounces light green worsted weight yarn, Size I crochet hook, Darning needle.
Row 1: With light green worsted weight yarn and size I hook, ch 62. Dc in 4th ch from hook and in each ch across. (60 dc made – counting first ch-3 as a dc.) Ch 3 turn.
Rows 2-5: Dc in each dc across. (60 dc made.) Ch 3, turn.
Row 6: Make dc dec over first 2 sts. (Make a dc in each of the next 8 dc. Make a dc dec over next 2 sts) 5 times. Dc in each of the last 7 sts. (54 dc made.) Ch 3, turn.
Rows 7-8: Dc in each dc across. (54 dc made.) Ch 3 turn.
Row 9: Make dc dec over first 2 sts. (Make a dc in each of the next 7 dc. Make a dc dec over next 2 sts) 5 times. Dc in each of the last 6 sts. (48 dc made.) Ch 3, turn.
Row 10: Dc in each dc across. (48 dc made.) Ch 3 turn.
Row 11: Make dc dec over first 2 sts. (Make a dc in each of the next 6 dc. Make a dc dec over next 2 sts) 5 times. Dc in each of the last 5 sts. (42 dc made.) Ch 3, turn.
Row 12: Make dc dec over first 2 sts. (Make a dc in each of the next 5 dc. Make a dc dec over next 2 sts) 5 times. Dc in each of the last 4 sts. (36 dc made.) Ch 3, turn.
Row 13: Dc in each dc across. (36 dc made.) Ch 3 turn.
Row 14: Make dc dec over first 2 sts. (Make a dc in each of the next 4 dc. Make a dc dec over next 2 sts) 5 times. Dc in each of the last 3 sts. (30 dc made.) End off leaving a 24” tail.
Finishing: Thread darning needle with tail and weave through top of last row made.
Gather together tightly and bring ends together. Sew through a couple of times to secure it. Sew side seams together and weave in the end.
Optional: If desired make a “Colorful Flower” in a contrasting color. Sew flower to the lower side of the hat, just above the eyebrow.
