Materials Needed:
Scraps of #3 Cotton Thread Size B Crochet Hook
Small ¾" button
Purse Back Pack
Rnd 1: Starting at base, ch 5. make 3 sc in 2nd ch from hook, marking 1st st. Sc in each of the next 2 chs. Make 3 sc in end ch. Working on the opposite side of ch, sc in the last
2 chs. Do not join. (10 sc made.)
Rnd 2: (Make 2 sc in next st) 3 times. Sc in each of the next 2 sts. (Make 2 sc in next st) 3 times. Sc in each of the last 2 sts. (16 sc made.)
Rnd 3: (Make 2 sc in next st, sc in next st) 3 times. Sc in each of the next 2 sts. (Make 2 sc in next st, sc in next st) 3 times. Sc in each of the last 2 sts. (22 sc made.)
Rnd 4: (Make 2 sc in next st, sc in each of the next 2 sts.) 3 times. Sc in each of the next 2 sts. (Make 2 sc in the next st, sc in each of the next 2 sts.) 3 times. Sc in each of the last 2 sts. (28 sc made.)
Rnd 5: Turning Rnd- Sc in the back loop of each of the 28 sts around.
Rnd 6: Working through both loops, sc in each of the 28 sc around. Repeat Rnd 6 - Six times.
Lay the piece flat and mark side sts. (You will have 13 sts between markers.)
Begin Shaping:
Rnd 1: Sc in each st until 2 sts before marker, sc these 2 sts tog. Sc in marked st. Replace marker. Sc next 2 sts tog. Sc in each of the next 9 sts. Sc next 2 sts tog. Sc in marked st.
Replace marker. Sc next 2 sts tog. Sc in each st until the next marker. (24 sc made.)
Rnd 2: Sc in each of the 24 sc around replacing markers as needed. Stop rnd 2 sts before the 1st marker.
Rnd 3: Sc 1st 2 sts tog. Sc in marked st. Replace marker. Sc next 2 sts tog. Sc in each of the next 7 sts. Sc next 2 sts tog. Sc in marked st. Replace marker. Sc next 2 sts tog. Sc in each st until the next marker. (20 sc made.)
Rnd 4: Sc in each of the 20 sc around replacing markers as needed. Stop the rnd at the1st marker.
Begin Front Beading:
Rnd 1: Sc in marked st and replace marker. (Ch 2, sk 1 st, sc in next st) 5 times. Replace marker.) Sc in rem sts.
Rnd 2: Sc in each st and ch-2 sp around. (20 sc made.) Begin Backpack Flap:
Sl st into 1st marked st, remove marker. ch 1 and turn.
Row 1: Sk sl st and sc in each of the next 9 sts. Remove all markers.
Row 2: Ch 1 and turn. Sc in each of the 9 sc across.
Row 3: Ch 1 and turn. Sc in each of the 9 sc across.
Row 4: Ch 1 and turn, sc 1st 2 sc tog. Sc in each st until the last 2 sts. Sc last 2 sts tog. (7 sc made.)
Row 5: Ch 1 and turn, sc in each of the 7 sts across
Row 6: Buttonhole Rnd - Ch 1 and turn, sc 1st 2 sc tog. Ch 4 for buttonhole, sk 3 sc, Sc last 2 sts tog. (2 sc and 1 buttonhole made.)
Row 7: Ch 1 and turn, sc in the 1st sc. Make 5 sc in the ch4 lp. Sc in the last st.
Row 8: Sc the entire opening. Join to the 1st sc made with a sl st. End off and weave in the end.
Making Ties:
Cut 2 pieces of yarn 60” long. Fold one of the yarn lengths in half and draw the folded end through the inside of the backpack as shown below.
Ch 25-35 using tails. End off’ knot and trim ends. Weave ties through to meet at the center.
Position Button and sew in place.
Make back hanging loop. Find the back center stitch.
Fold another 60" stand of thread in half and attach it 2 sts to the right of the marker.
Make about 10 chains or as many as you want. Cut the tail leaving it about 5" long. Pull each tail to the inside and knot. Weave in the ends.
