Materials Needed: 3 1/2 ounces (Raspberry shown) Caron Simply Soft yarn. Size H crochet hook. .
Mitts – Make 2
With H hook and Raspberry Yarn, ch 26 very loosely. Join to first ch to form a ring.
Rnd 1: Ch 1, sc in each ch around. Join to first sc with sl st. Ch 1, turn. (26 sc.)
Rnd 2: In first sc make (sc and hdc.) ** Skip next sc, in next sc make (sc and hdc.) * Repeat from ** to * around. End with skip last sc. Join to first sc with sl st. (13 sc-hdc groups.) Ch 1, turn.
Rnd 3: ** In next sc make (sc and hdc.) * Repeat from ** to * around. Join to first sc with sl st. Ch 1, turn.
Rnds 4 – 25: Repeat Rnd 3.(Note: you can add more rows here to make longer if desired.)
Begin Thumb Opening - Row 1: ** In next sc make (sc and hdc.) * Repeat from ** to * until 13 shells have been made. DO NOT JOIN. Ch 1, turn. Begin working in rows.
Rows 2- 6: Repeat Row 1.
Begin Hand – Rnd 1: ** In next sc make (sc and hdc.) * Repeat from ** to * until 13 shells have been made. Ch 1, JOIN to first sc with sl st to begin working again in rounds. Do NOT turn.
Rnd 2: Ch 1, sc in joining. **Skip 1 st, in next st make (hdc, dc, ch 1, dc and hdc.) Skip 1 st, sc in next st.* Repeat from ** to * around. End with, Skip 1 st, in next st make (hdc, dc, ch 1, dc and hdc.) Skip 1 st, join to first sc made with sl st. Ch 2, do NOT turn. (7 shells made.)
Rnd 3: Ch 2, (counts as hdc.) in same sc as joining make (dc, ch 1, dc and hdc.) Sc in next ch-1 space. ** In next sc make (hdc, dc, ch 1, dc and hdc) Sc in next ch-1 space. * Repeat from ** to * around. End with sl st in 2nd ch of first ch-2.
Rnd 4: Sl st into first ch-1 space. Ch 1, sc in same space. **In next sc make (hdc, dc, ch 1, dc and hdc) Sc in next ch-1 space. * Repeat from ** to * around. End with, Skip 1 st, in next st make (hdc, dc, ch 1, dc and hdc.) Skip 1 st, join to first sc made with sl st.
Rnd 5: ch 2, in same sc as joining, make (dc, ch 1, dc and hdc.) Sc in next ch-1 space.
** In next sc make (hdc, dc, ch 1, dc and hdc) Sc in next ch-1 space. * Repeat from ** to
* around. End with sl st in 2nd ch of first ch-2. End off and weave in end.
Finishing Thumb Opening: Finishing Thumb: Attach yarn with a sl st in any st around thumb opening. Make about 14 evenly spaced sc around opening. End with sl st to first sc to join. End off and weave in end.
(Hint: if you desire a longer thumb opening just make more rounds of sc.)
