Abbreviations Used:
st = stitch ch = chain
sc = single crochet dc = double crochet sl st = slip stitch dec = decrease
Materials needed:
Small piece of foam board. About 8 straight pins. Size 8 steel crochet hook. 1 ½ ounces black cotton crochet thread size 10 bedspread weight. ½ ounce red cotton crochet thread size 10 bedspread weight.
Special Stitches:
Picot: Ch 3, sl st in 3rd ch from hook.
Shell: In stitch indicated make (sc and 2 dc.)
Wristers – Make 2: With black thread and size 8 hook, ch 48 loosely. Being careful not to twist ch, join to form a ring.
Rnd 1: Ch 1, in joining make (sc, 2 dc.) ** Skip 2 ch. In next ch make (sc, 2 dc.) * Repeat from
** to * around. Join to first sc with sl st. (16 shells made.)
Rnd 2: Ch 1, in joining make (sc, 2 dc.) ** Skip 2 dc. In next sc make (sc, 2 dc.) * Repeat from
** to * around. Join to first sc with sl st.
Repeat Rnd 2 until a total of 16 rnds have been completed.
Rnd 17: Ch 1, sc in first sc. (Ch 3, sc in next sc.) around. End with ch 3, sl st into first sc to finish rnd. End off black and weave in end.
Forearm edge: Attach red thread in any ch-3 space on rnd 17. Ch 1, in same space make (2 sc, picot, 2 sc.) [In next space make (2 sc, picot, 2 sc)] around. End with sl st to first sc. End off red and weave in end.
Cuff– Rnd 1: With black thread and working along opposite side of Rnd 1 ch, attach thread with a sl st at base of any shell. Ch 1, sc in same st. (Ch 3, sc in base of next shell.) 15 times. Ch 1, dc in first sc of rnd. (This forms last loop and puts thread in position for next rnd. (16 loops made.)
Rnd 2: Ch 1, sc in loop just formed. (Ch 3, sc in next sc. Ch 3, sc in next loop.) End with, ch 3, sc in next sc. Ch 1, dc in first sc made to put thread in position for next rnd. (32 loops.)
Rnd 3: Ch 1, sc in loop just formed. (Ch 3, sc in next loop) around. End with ch 1, dc in first sc made.
Rnd4: Repeat Rnd 3.
Rnd 5: Repeat Rnd 2. (64 loops.)
Rnds 6-15 Ch 1, sc in loop just formed. (Ch 3, sc in next loop) around. End with ch 1, dc in first sc made. At end of rnd 15, end off black and weave in end.
Cuff edge: Attach red thread in any ch-3 space on rnd 15. Ch 1, in same space make (2 sc, picot, 2 sc.) [In next space make (2 sc, picot, 2 sc)] around. End with sl st to first sc. End off red and weave in end.
Frog Fasteners: On foam board place 4 straight pins as shown on photo below. A and B are 1” apart while C and D are 1 1/2” apart.
Button Hole Side Frog: With red thread and size 8 hook, ch 70 (About 7 ½”). Sl st in each ch across. End off leaving a 12” tail for sewing.
Pin end of chain in center. Loop other end around D in the counter-clockwise direction.
Loop end around center pin and around B in counter-clockwise direction.
Tuck end under previous step. Loop end around A in clockwise direction.
Place end on top of previous step towards C.
Loop end around C in clockwise direction and tuck under previous step.
Pin center of closure secure with remaining pins. Unpin A, B, C, and D.
Turn closure over. With tapestry needle, secure center of closure with long tail. Weave in opposite end.
Button Side Frog: With red thread, ch 2.
Rnd 1: Make 5 sc in 2nd ch from hook. Do not join.
Rnd 2: *Make 2 sc in next sc, repeat from * around. (10 sc.)
Rnds 3-4: Single crochet in each sc around, do not turn.
Rnd 5: *Sc 2 tog [sc decrease] over next 2 sc, repeat from * around. (5 sc)
Rnd 5: Sc 5 tog over next 5 sc.
Ch 45, turn and sl st across each chain back to button. Fasten off, leaving a 12” long tail. Squish button flat. Using tapestry needle and long tail secure button flat by sewing from front to back multiple times. Wrap as for Button hole side leaving button as shown in photo below.
Sew Frog Fasteners down on cuff about ½” from where ruffle starts. NOTE: Putting the Fasteners farther apart cinches the wrist if that is desired once they are buttoned.
Button fastener and Repeat entire process for next wrister, reversing frog placement.
