Grinch Gnome

Abbreviations Used:

ch=chain

sc = single crochet

hdc = half double crochet sl st = slip stitch

dc = double crochet lp st = loop st

Gauge: 4 sts in sc = 1", 5 rows in sc = 1"

Materials Needed:

Hot Glue gun. Piece of cardboard about 5" wide. Sizes I crochet Hook. 1 ½ oz of Red worsted weight yarn. ½ oz white yarn. Scraps of Peach worsted weight yarn. Cotton ball size of stuffing. Darning needle and scissors. 2 ounces of beard colored yarn. (Green Shown)

Hat

Starting at tip. With Red yarn and H hook, make a magic circle.

Rnd 1. Ch 2 and make 4 sc in a circle. Do not join but do mark 1st st. Tighten the circle. (4 sts made.)

Rnd 2. Sc in each of the 4 sc around.

Rnd 3. Make 2 sc in each st around. (8 sts made.)

Rnds 4-9. Sc in each st around. (8 sts made.)

Rnd 10. Make 2 sc in 1st st. Sc in each of the next 7 sts. (9 sts made.)

Rnd 11. Sc in each st around. (9 sts made.)

Rnd 12. Make 2 sc in 1st st. Sc in each of the next 8 sts. (10 sts made.)

Rnd 13. Sc in each st around. (10 sts made.)

Rnd 14. Make 2 sc in 1st st. Sc in each of the next 4 sts. Make 2 sc in the next st. Sc in each of the last 4 sts. (12 sts made.)

Rnd 33. With white, loop st (lp st) in each of the 40 sts around. (Loops will show on the right side.)

Rnd 34. (Make 2 lp sts in the next st. Lp st in next 4 sts) around. (48 lp sts made.)

Rnd 35 - 36. Lp st in each of the 48 sts around. Join and end off. Leave the cuff as is or cut and brush out.

Make or purchase a pom pom and sew or glue to the tip of the hat.

Beard - Use Green yarn

(This is just one way to make the beard, you may choose any way you wish.)

Grab your 5" piece of cardboard.

With beard colored yarn, wrap around cardboard about 150 times.

Cut a piece of the same colored yarn about 36" long. Fold yarn in half and draw under all the top loops with a tail on each side.

Securely tie the two ends (tails) tog and pull off cardboard.

Cut bottom loops of beard.

Spread the top of the beard out and sew to the inside of the hat at brim seam.

Nose

Rnd 1. With size I hook and Green yarn, ch 2 or make a magic circle. Make 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook (or in magic circle.) Do NOT join, but do mark 1st st. (6 sc.)

Rnd 2. Make (2 sc in next sc) around. (12 sc.)

Rnd 3. Make (sc in next sc, make 2 sc in next sc) around. (18 sc.)

Rnds 4 - 5. Sc in each of the 18 sts around.

Rnd 6. (Sc next 2 sts tog. Sc in next st) around. Join to the 1st sc made. (12 sc.)

Rnd 7. (Sc next 2 sts tog) around. Join and end off weaving in the end. Stuff lightly if desired and glue to beard and hat as shown below.

Arms and Hands

With Green make a magic circle and ch 1.

Rnd 1. Make 6 sc in the ring do not join but do mark the 1st st. (6 sc made.)

Rnd 2. Make 2 sc in each st around. (12 sc made.)

Rnd 3-5. Sc in each of the 12 sts around. End off green and weave in the end. Join white in any st from rnd 5.

Rnd 6. C h 1, with White yarn sc in each of the 12 sc around. Do not join.

Rnds 7-8. Sc in each of the 12 sts around. End off white and weave in the end. Join Red yarn in any st from rnd 5.

Rnd 9. Ch 1, with Red yarn sc in each of the 12 sc around. Do not join.

Rnds 10- 14. Sc in each of the 12 sts around. End off Red leaving a long tail.

Fold arm flat and using the tail ses the end closed.

Lift up the beard as shown below and glue arms in place.

Small Heart - Make 1

Rnd 1. With Red yarn and size I Hook, make a magic circle. Ch 4 and make (3 dc, 3 hdc, ch 1, dc, ch 1, 3 hdc, 3 dc , ch 3 and sl st into ring. Tighten the ring . End off weaving in the end.

Glue to the beard as shown below.

Bulb

Rnd 1. With Red make a magic circle. Ch 1 and make 6 sc in the ring. Do not join.

Rnd 2. Make 2 sc in each st around. (12 sc made.)

Rnds 3-4. Sc in each of the 12 sts around.

Rnd 5. (Sc the next 2 sts tog) around. (6 sc made.) End off leaving a long tail.

With the tail, weave the last 6 sts together and secure. Attach the bulb to the gnomes hand using The tail. Place on bottle and enjoy.
