Materials Needed:

3 ½ ounces Green for small, 4 ounces for medium and 6 ounces for large, Red Heart Super Saver 4 ply worsted weight yarn. 2 ounces of Black worsted weight yarn, scraps of grey worsted weight yarn. Small amount of fiber fill.Size I crochet hook. Darning needle. 2 seamless ponytail elastic bands.

Begin Hat

Rnd 1: With Black yarn, and size I hook, ch 2 (or make a magic circle.) Make 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook. Do not join, but mark the first st made on this Rnd and every other Rnd.

Rnd 2: Make 2 sc in each sc around (12 sc made)

Rnd 3: (Sc in next sc, make 2 sc in next sc) around (18 sc made.)

Rnd 4: (Sc in each of the next 2 sc, make 2 sc in next sc) around (24 sc made.) Rnd 5: (Sc in each of the next 3 sc, make 2 sc in next sc) around (30 sc made.) Rnd 6: (Sc in each of the next 2 sc, make 2 sc in next sc) around (40 sc made.) Rnd 7: (Sc in each of the next 4 sc, make 2 sc in next sc) around (48 sc made.) Rnd 8:(Sc in each of the next 7 sc, make 2 sc in next sc) around (54 sc made.)

Rnd 11: Ch 1, (sc in next st. hdc in next st, dc in next st, trc in next st, dc in next st, hdc in next st) around. Join to 1st st with sl st. End off black and weave in end.

Attach green yarn in any trc.

Rnd 12 - work this rnd in back loop only: Ch 1, (sc in trc, hdc in dc, dc in hdc, trc in sc) repeat around. Join to 1st sc with sl st.

Rnd 13 work now and throughout through both loops: Ch 1 and sc in each of the 60 [66, 72] sc around, Do not join, but mark first stitch made on every Rnd.

Repeat Rnd 14 until Hat is (Small 5”, Medium 6”, Large 7” from center or starting ch-2) sl st in next st.

Start Eye and Nose Opening

Row 1: Ch 1 and turn, Sc in next sc and in next (45, 51, 57) stitches. Ch 1, turn. (46 [52, 58 scs.]

Row 2: Sc first 2 sc together for a decrease. Sc in each stitch until last 2 sc. Sc last 2 sc together. (44, 50, 56] stitches.) Ch 1, turn.

Row 3: Sc first 2 sc together for a decrease. Sc in each stitch until last 2 sc. Sc last 2 sc together (42, 48, 54] stitches.) Ch 1, turn.

Row 4:Sc first 2 sc together for a decrease. Sc in each stitch until last 2 sc. Sc last 2 sc together. (40,46,52 stitches.) Ch 1, turn.

Rows 5-6: Sc in each sc across. Ch 1, turn. Only work row 5 for size small and skip down to row 7.

Row 7: Make 2 sc in first sc. Sc in each st until last sc. Make 2 sc in last sc. (42, 48, 54] stitches.) Ch 1, turn.

Row 8:Make 2 sc in first sc. Single crochet in each sc until last sc. Make 2 sc in last sc. (44, 50, 56] stitches.) Ch 1, turn.

Row 9: Make 2 sc in first sc. Single crochet in each sc until last sc. Make 2 sc in last sc. (46, [52, 58 stitches.) Do not turn, loosely ch (4, [4, 6] stitches.)

Row 10: Turn, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in every single crochet and chain around. Do not turn, loosely ch (4, [4, 6] sts) (49, 55, 63] stitches made)

Row 11:Single crochet in 2nd ch from hook and in every single crochet and chain around, (52, [58, 66] stitches made.) Ch 1 and turn.

Row 12: Make 2 sc in 1st st. Sc in each st across until last st, make 2 sc in last st. (54, [60, 68] sts made.) Ch 1, turn.

Row 13: Make 2 sc in 1st st. Sc in each st across until last st, make 2 sc in last st. (56, [62, 68] sts made.) Ch 1, turn.

Row 14: Make 2 sc in 1st st. Sc in each st across until last st, make 2 sc in last st. (58, [64, 70] sts made.) Ch 2, and join to opposite side with sl st.

Bottom - Rnd 1: Turn piece to right side if needed. Ch 1 and sc in each st and ch around, Do not join. (60, 66, 72 scs made.)

Continue to work in the Rnd until piece measures (12, [14, 15] inches) from beg to bottom.

Do a row of reverse sc around bottom if desired. End off and weave in end. Embroider stitches to forehead as shown above.

Mark the inside center top 2 sts. This will be for nose placement later.Set piece aside

Bridge of Nose

Row 1:With green yarn and I hook, attach yarn to st to the right of your first marked st as shown below.

Ch 1 and sc in same st. Remove markers and sc in each of the next 2 sts. (3 sc made.)

Row 2: Ch 1, and turn. Sc in 1st st. Sk next st and sc in last st. (2 sc made.) End off.

Mask nose

With green yarn and I hook, make a magic circle.

Rnd 1:Ch 1, make 8 sc in ring. Join to 1st sc made with sl st. (8 sc made)

Rnd 2:Ch 1, make 3 sc in 1st st. Sc in each of the next 2 sts. Make 3 sc in next st. Sc in next st. Make 3 sc in next st. Sc in last 2 sts. Join to first sc with sl st. (14 sc made)

Rnd 3: Ch 1 and sc in 1st st. Make 3 sc in next st. Sc in each of the next 4 sts. Make 3 sc in next st. Sc in next 3 sts. Make 3 sc in next st. Sc in each of the last 3 sts. Join to 1st sc with sl st. (20 sc made)

Rnd 4: Ch 1, sc in each of the next 2 sts. Make 3 sc in next st. Sc in last 18 sts. (23 sc made) Join to 1st sc with sl st.

Eyes - Make 2

Rnd 1:Using ponytail holders and green yarn, ch 1 and make 30 sc around band. Join to 1st sc with sl st. End off leaving a tail to sew to mask as shown below.

Ears

Right Ear

Row 1: With green yarn and I hook, make a magic circle. Ch 1 and make 8 sc in ring. Do NOT join, but pull ring tight, but ch 2 and turn.

Row 2:Dc in same st as turning ch. Make 2 dc in next 5 sts. Sl st into last st. Ch 1 and turn. (12 sts made including beg ch-2 as a st.)

Row 3:Working in front loop only, sk sl st, make (sc and dc) in sc.Dc in next st. Make 2 dc in next st, make 1 dc in each of the next 2 sts. Make (dc and hdc) in next st. Hdc in each of the next 2 sts. Beg working again through both loops. Sc in next st. Make 2 dc in next st, Make (3 dc and 1 sc) in next st. Sl st in side of ch-2. End off leaving a tail to later sew to mask.

Left Ear

Row 1: With green yarn and I hook, make a magic circle. Ch 1 and make 8 sc in ring. Do NOT join, but pull ring tight, turn.

Row 2: Sl st into 1st st. Make 2 dc in each of the next 5 sts. Make (dc and hdc) in last st. Sl Sl st into side of hdc made. Ch 1 and turn.

Bolts - make 2

Rnd 1:With grey yarn and I hook, make a magic circle. Ch 1 amd make 6 sc in ring. Join to first sc with sl st.

Rnd 2: Ch 1, make 2 sc in each st around. Join to first sc with sl st. (12 sc made.)

Rnd 3:This rnd is worked in back loop only. Ch 1 and sc in blo of each st around. Join to first sc with sl st.

Rnd 4: This rnd is worked through both loops. Ch 1 and sc in each st around. Join to first sc with sl st.

Rnd 5:This rnd is worked in back loop only. Ch 1, (sc next 2 sts tog) around. (6 sc made.) Join for the last time.

Rnd 6: This rnd and each remaining rnd is worked through both loops. Do not join but work in rounds. Ch 1 and sc in each st around. (6 sc made.)

Rnds 7-8: Sc in each of the 6 sc around. At end of Rnd 8, end off leaving a tail to sew to mask as shown below. Stuff lightly with a cotton ball size of fiber fill.

Embroider mouth to mask with black yarn and shown below.
