Abbreviations Used:

sl st = slip stitch st = stitch

ch = chain

sc = single crochet

hdc = half double crochet dc = double crochet

dec = decrease


Materials Needed: 3 1/2 ounces (Dark Sage shown) Caron Simply Soft yarn. Size H crochet hook. Two 7/8” Decorative buttons.


Special Stitches

Front Post Stitch-fpdc: Yo (yarn over) your hook; starting from the front, place hook from front to back to front (as per arrow in example) around the post of st (stitch) in row below; complete as a dc or hdc as indicated in pattern.

Back Post Stitch-bpdc: yo, starting from the back, place hook from back to front to back (as per arrow in example) around post of st in row below; complete as a dc or hdc as indicated in pattern.


Terry Mitts – Make 2


Starting at top of Left Mitten: With H hook and Yarn, ch 26 very loosely. Join to first ch to form a ring.


Rnd 1: Ch 3, (counts as first hdc and ch-1) hdc in same st. ** Skip next ch, make (hdc, ch 1, hdc ) in next ch. * Repeat from ** to * until end. Join to 2nd ch of first ch-3 with sl st. (13 ch-1 spaces.) Ch 1, turn.


Rnd 2: Sl st into first ch-1 space. Ch 3, (counts as first hdc and ch-1) hdc in same st. ** Skip next 2 hdc, make (hdc, ch 1, hdc ) in next ch-1 space * Repeat from ** to * until end. Join to 2nd ch of first ch-3 with sl st. (13 ch-1 spaces.) Ch 1, turn.


Rnds 3 - 15: Repeat Rnd 2.


Begin Thumb Opening - Row 1: Sl st into first ch-1 space. Ch 3, (counts as first hdc and ch-1) hdc in same st. ** Skip next 2 hdc, make (hdc, ch 1, hdc ) in next ch-1 space * Repeat from ** to * until end. DO NOT JOIN. Ch 1, turn.

Rows 2- 5: Repeat Row 1.


Begin Hand – Rnd 1 Sl st into first ch-1 space. Ch 3, (counts as first hdc and ch-1) hdc in same st. ** Skip next 2 hdc, make (hdc, ch 1, hdc ) in next ch-1 space * Repeat from

** to * until end. JOIN to first ch-3 with sl st to begin working again in rounds. Ch 1, turn.


Rnds 2-3: Repeat Rnd 1. End off and weave in end.

Rnd 4: Sl st into first ch-1 space. Ch 1, in same space make (sc, ch 3, sc in 3rd ch from hook for picot, sc back into same space.) In next space make (sc, picot, sc) around. Join to first sc with sl st. End off and weave in end.


Finishing Arm Edge: Attach Yarn with sl st in any starting ch st. Ch 1, sc in same st. Make a picot, sc in next st. ** Make a picot. Sc in next st.* Repeat from ** to * around.

Join to first sc with sl st. End off leaving a 24” tail. Fold cuff over about 1 ½” to right side and tack in place with the 24” tail and a darning needle. Sew button to opposite side as thumb opening as shown on cover.

Finishing Thumb Opening: Finishing Thumb: Attach yarn with a sl st in any st around thumb opening. Ch 3, hdc in same space. Make a total of 8 “V” stitches around thumb opening.


Rnd 2: Ch 1, sc between dcs. ** Sc in next ch-1 space. Sc between next 2 dcs. * Repeat from ** to * around. (16 sc.) Join to first sc with sl st.


Rnd 3: Sc in each sc around decreasing 4 evenly spaced sc. (12 sc.) Join to first sc with sl st. End off and weave in end.
