Find the back center st and mark it.

Nape of Neck

Row 1. Attach yarn in 15th st to the right of the center marker. Ch 1 and sc in each of the 31 sts removing markers. Turn.

Rep Row 2 - four, six, eight times. Do not end off but do mark center back st. 11th, 16th, 16th


Finishing Hat

Right side. Fold cape in half at top. Place a marker in center st at top.


Center hat with top of cape, making sure right sides are facing and pin in place. Working through both thicknesses, continue sc through both the hat and the cape until all 21, 31, 31 scs have been made. Do NOT end off.

Once the hat is attached to the cape, sc evenly around the entire piece making (sc, picot, sc) in each ch2 sp at the bottom of the cape. Make 2 sc in the middle marked st over the nose.


Join to the 1st sc made. End off and weave in the end.


Black Stripes

Join black yarn at the tail end as shown below (you will be working in the holes made by the increases.) Make sure you have the workining end of the yarn at the right side.

Row 1. Draw up a loop, and use the holes, ch 1 and sc in the next hole. [Ch 2, (very loosely or 3 if you ch tight) and sc in the next hole.] Repeat this all the way up to the neck. End off and weave in the end.



Repeat this process in the 6 other Spiked increase rows.



Tail End

With desired Black yarn make a magic circle or ch 3 and join to 1st ch to form a ring. Note:. do not join rounds.

Rnd 1. Ch 1 and make 4 sc in ring.

Rnd 2. Sc and mark 1st st. Make 2 sc in the next st. Sc in and mark this st. Make 2 sc in next st. (6 sc made.)

Rnd 3. Sc in marked st. Remark. (Make 2 sc in the next st) twice. Sc in next st and remark. (Make 2 sc in next st) twice. Sc in each st until marker. (10 sc made.)

Rnd 4. (Sc in next st and remark. Make 2 sc in the next st. Sc in each of the next 2 sts. Make 2 sc in the next st.) Twice (14 sc made.)


Rnd 5. (Sc in next st and remark. Make 2 sc in the next st. Sc in each of the next 4 sts. Make 2 sc in the next st.) Twice (18 sc made.)

Next Rnds. Rep rnd 5 making 2 sc before each marker and 2 sts after each marker until the piece is 4 ½" from tip. End off leaving a long tail. Note: You are inc by 4 sts each rnd.


Spread the tail of the cape out and sandwich between the piece and pin in place.

Sew ends closed and sew to the end of tail. Set the piece aside.

Attach yarn at right bottom and sc evenly around sides and top making picot over black stripe. End off and weave in the end. Pin to the hat and sew in place as


Finishing eyes.

Take 2 pipe cleaners and make a bend in each 2" down from end.



Place bends tig and twist to form circles. Twist the 2" pieces into the circle to hide and soften edges.



Place the circle over the eye and sc into each ch on the eyehole enclosing the pipe cleaner.



Bend eyes to desired shape.


At this point I like to add another (if it will fit), large scale to top of head.



2 option Flame

CRAFT -Preferred way

  1. Cut out a template. (Search online for one you like.)


  2. Cut the largest flame with yellow foam. *Now take the template and cut ¾" around the entire piece to make it smaller. Cut the orange foam with this template.* Repeat with red foam.

    Center glue all pieces of foam tog.


  3. Open hood to expose the underside of snout.


  4. Glue under snout

  5. Place the right side of flame atop glue.


  6. Place a weight on top and let dry thoroughly.

With yellow yarn and I hook, make a magic circle.

Row 1. Ch 2 and make 6 sc in the circle. Tighten the circle. Do not join but do turn work to work in rows.


Row 2. Ch 1 and sc in 1st st. Hdc in next st. In the next st make a (hdc and dc.) In the next st make a (dc and hdc.) Hdc in next st and sc in last st. Turn. (8 sts made.)

Row 4. Sl st into each of the next 3 sts. Sc in next st. Hdc in next st. In the next st make a (hdc, dc and

trc.) In the next st make a (trc, dc and hdc.) Hdc in next st. Sc in next st. Sl st in each of the last 3 sts. Ch 1 and turn work to finish the raw edge at the bottom. Make 7 sc across the bottom. Join to 1st sl st made, end off and weave in end.


Attach orange to 1st st st made.


Row 5. Ch 1 and sc in each of the next 3 sl sts.

Hdc in next st. Ch 4. Sl st in 2nd ch from hook. Sc in next ch. Dc in next ch. Sl st into same st where you started the ch.

Sc in each of the next 2 sts. Make 2 hdc in the next st. In next st make (2 hdc, 2 dc) ch 1 and make 2 sc down leg of dc.

Sc in each of the next 2 sts.


Ch 4. Sl st in 2nd ch from hook. Sc in next ch. Dc in next ch. Sl st into the same st where you started the ch.

Sc in each of the next 2 sts. Ch 6, sl st in 2nd ch from hook. Sc in each of the next 2 chs. Hdc in next ch. Dc in next ch. Sc into the same st where you started the ch. Sc in each of the next 8 sts. Turn.


Row 6. Ch 1 and turn. Sl st in 1st 2 sts. Ch 3, sc in 2nd ch from hook and hdc in next ch. Sc in next sc on body of flame. Sc in next 5 sts. (You should be at the bottom of the flame.) Sc in next 3 sts on flame (this puts you at top of the flame)

Make 2 sc in the tip of the flame. Make 3 sl sts down the side of the flame. Sk 1 st at base and sc in next st. Make 2 scs up to tip of next flame. Make hdc and dc in same st. Ch 1 and make 1 sc in leg of st. Sc in next 7 sts, stopping 1 st before base of flame.

Sc in next 2 sts on flame. At tip make (sc, ch 1 and sc.) Sl st in each st down the side of the flame and in each rem st to the end of the row. End off orange and weave in the end.


Attach Red in last st worked.


Finishing Row

Place pipe cleaner over work and sc around the piece encasing the pipe cleaner. If you need to add another pipe cleaner, just twist onto the one you are using.



  1. Finished.

  2. Gather bottom.

  3. Sew gathers together.

  4. Sew under nose.
