Tiger Mask

Materials Needed

1 oz. Orange Worsted Weight Cotton Yarn Scraps of Black Worsted Weight Cotton Yarn

Scraps of White or Cream Worsted Weight Cotton Yarn

Make 2

EYE SOCKET SIDE 1: Rnd 1: Beg at eyehole, ch 18. Being careful not to twist ch, join to first ch with a sl st. Ch 1, in joining make 3 sc. Mark 2nd sc as inside edge. Sc in each of the next 8 chs. In next ch make (sc, hdc, sc.) Mark hdc as outside edge. Sc in each of the next 8 chs. Join to first sc with a sl st. 22 sts made.

Rnd 2: Ch 1, and make 2 scs in same st for an inc. Make 3 scs in next marked st (mark 2nd sc as center.) Make 2 scs in next st.

Sc in next 9 sts. Make 3 sc in marked st. Mark 2nd st as center. Sc in last 9 sts. Join to 1st sc made with sl st to end rnd.

Rnd 3: Ch 1 and sc in same st. Sl st in next 5 sts. Sc in next 11 sts. Make 3 sc in marked st moving marker to 2nd sc as center. Sc in last 10 sts. Join to 1st sc with sl st. End off and weave in end for 1st side. (30 sts made.) For 2nd side, leave long tail for sewing pieces tog. Note that inside edge is blunt. (30 sc made.)

Prepping inside pieces.

From center inside marker, count over 3 sts on both sides and place a marker as shown below.

Sew pieces tog as shown below, removing center inside markers.

Begin Full Mask

Attach yarn at right edge in marked st as shown below.

Rnd 1: Ch 1 and sc in same st replacing marker. (Sc in next 4 sts. Make 2 sc in next st) twice.

Sc in each of the next 2 sts. Hdc in next st. Dc in next st. This will bring you to center forehead of mask. (17 sts made so far.) Note: If at anytime you need more or less sts to work in just inc or dec to get to the correct amount.

Begin working on next side of mask.

Dc in next st. Hdc in next st. Sc in each of the next 2 sts. (Make 2 sc in next st. Sc in each of the next 4 sts) twice. Sc in marked st. (34 sts made so far.)

Begin working on bottom half of mask.

(Make 2 sc in next st. Sc in each of the next 4 sts) twice. Sc in each of the next 4 sts. This will bring you to the center bottom portion. Sc in each of the next 4 sts. (Make 2 sc in next st. Sc in each of the next 4 sts) twice. Join to 1st sc with sl st. (66 sts made.)

Rnd 2: Ch 1, (sc in next 3 sts, make 2 sc in next st) twice. Sc in each of the next 17 sts. (Make 2 sc in next st. Sc in each of the next 3 sts) twice.

Begin working on bottom half of mask

(Sc in each of the next 3 sts. Make 2 sc in next st) 3 times. Sl st in each of the next 6 sts along nose. (Sc in each of the next 3 sts. Make 2 sc in next st) 3 times. Join to 1st st with sl st. (73 sts made.)

Begin Forehead

Row 1: Sl st in next st. Sc in each of the next 3 sts. Make 2 sc in next st. Hdc in each of the next 2 sts. Make 2 hdc in next st.

Hdc in each of the next 21 sts.

Make 2 hdc in next st. Hdc in each of the next 2 sts. Make 2 sc in next st. Sc in each of the next 3 sts. Sl st in each st across bottom until 1st sl st. Sl st into 1st sl st to end rnd.

Row 2: Sl st in 1st sc and in next 5 sts. Sc in each of the next 3 sts. Make 2 hdcs in next st. Hdc in each of the next 19 sts. Make 2 hdcs in next st. Sc in each of the next 3 sts. Sl st in each of the last 5 sts. Join to next st with sl st.

Finishing:

Do NOT End off, but turn to right side and sl st in each st around.

End off and weave in end. Set aside.

Muzzle-make 2

Rnd 1: With size H hook and White yarn, ch 2 or make magic circle. Make 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook (or in magic circle.) Do NOT join, but do mark 1st st. (6 sc.)

Rnd 2: Make (2 sc in next sc) around. (12 sc.)

Rnd 3: Make (sc in next sc, make 2 sc in next sc) around. (18 sc.) End off and set aside.

Nose

Rnd 1: With size H hook and White yarn, ch 2 or make magic circle. Make 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook (or in magic circle.) Join to 1st sc with sl st. (6 sc.)

Rnd 2: Ch 1 and make 2 sc in 1st st. Sc in next st. Make 3 sc in next st. (Bottom of nose.) Sc in next st. Make 2 sc in next st. Sc in next St and join to 1st sc with sl st. End off leaving a long tail for sewing.

Finishing: Sew muzzle and nose to mask as shown below.

Middle of forehead stripe:

Row 1: Ch 9 and sl st in 2nd ch from hook. Sl st in next ch. Sc in each of the next 2 chs. Hdc in each of the next 2 chs. Dc in last 2 chs. End off and set aside.

Side Forehead Stripe - Make 2

Row 1: Ch 6 and sl st in 2nd ch from hook. Sc in each of the next 2 chs. Hdc in the next ch. Dc in last ch. End off and set aside.

Sew all forehead pieces to mask as shown below.

Side and Bottom Stripes - make 6

Row 1: Ch 5 and sl st in 2nd ch from hook. Sc in the next ch. Hdc in the next ch. Dc in last ch. End off and pin set aside.

Sew all pieces to mask as shown below.

Ears - Make 2 Ears - Make 2.

Row 1: With white colored yarn and H hook, ch 7. Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. (6 sc made.) Ch 1, turn.

Row 2: Sc first 2 sc together. Sc in each of the next 2 sc. Sc last 2 sc together. (4 sc made.) Ch 1, turn.

Row 3: Sc in each st across. Ch 1 and turn. (4 sc made.)

Row 4: Sc first 2 sc together. Sc last 2 sc together. (2 sc made.) Ch 1, turn.

Row 5: Sc both sc together. Ch 1, turn.

Finishing: Make 3 sc in tip, make 4 sc down side, make 3 sc in tip. Make 4

sc across bottom of ear. Make 3 sc in tip. Make 4 sc up last side, join to first sc with sl st. End off and weave in end. Attach orange yarn in any st and sc in each st around making 3 sc in each corner. Join to first sc with sl st. End off leaving a long tail and sew to mask as shown below.

Finishing

Cut 1 piece of ¼" elastic about 10" long. Sew to sides of mask as shown below.

Dip mask (NOT elastic) in stiffener and shape on form. Let dry and enjoy.

Monkey Mask

Materials Needed

1 oz. Brown Worsted Weight Cotton Yarn

½ oz tan Worsted Weight Cotton Yarn

Make 2

Rnd 2: Ch 1, and make 2 scs in same st for an inc. Make 3 scs in next marked st (mark 2nd sc as center.) Make 2 scs in next st.

Sc in next 9 sts. Make 3 sc in marked st. Mark 2nd st as center. Sc in last 9 sts. Join to 2nd ch of beg ch-2 to end rnd. (28 sts made.)

Rnd 3: Ch 1 and sc in same st. Sl st in next 5 sts. Sc in next 11 sts. Make 3 sc in marked st moving marker to 2nd sc as center. Sc in last 11 sts. Join to 1st sc with sl st. End off and weave in end for 1st side. For 2nd side, leave long tail for sewing pieces tog. Note that inside edge is blunt. (30 sc made.)

Prepping inside pieces.

From center inside marker, count over 3 sts on both sides and place a marker as shown below.

Sew pieces tog as shown below, removing center inside markers.

Begin Full Mask

Attach yarn at right edge in marked st as shown below.

Rnd 1: Ch 1 and sc in same st replacing marker. (Sc in next 4 sts. Make 2 sc in next st) twice.

Begin working on next side of mask.

Rnd 2: Ch 1, (sc in next 3 sts, make 2 sc in next st) twice. Sc in each of the next 17 sts. (Make 2 sc in next st. Sc in each of the next 3 sts) twice.

Begin working on bottom half of mask

Rnd 3: Sl st into 1st sc and in each st around. Join to 1st sc with sl st. End off and weave in end.

Monkey Ears-Make 2

Row 1: With Tan and H hook, ch 3, sc in 2nd ch from hook. Make 3 sc in next ch. Working on opposite side of ch, sc in last st. Turn. (5 sts made.)

Row 2: Ch 2, counts as first hdc. Hdc in same st for an inc. (Make 2 dc in next st) 3 times. Make 2 hdc in next st. Ch 1, turn. (10 sts made.)

Row 3: (Sc in first sc. Make 2 sc in next sc) across. End off and weave in end. (15 sc made.)

Row 4: Attach Brown yarn in 1st sc of row 2, ch 1, sc in same st and in next st. Make 2 sc in next sc. (Sc in each of the next 2 next sc. Make 2 sc in next st) across. End off leaving a 12” tail to sew to side of monkey’s head as shown in photo below. (20 sc made.)

Face

Make 2

Rnd 2: Ch 1, and make 2 scs in same st for an inc. Make 3 scs in next marked st (mark 2nd sc as center.) Make 2 scs in next st.

Sc in next 9 sts. Make 3 sc in marked st. Mark 2nd st as center. Sc in last 9 sts. Join to 2nd ch of beg ch-2 to end rnd. (28 sts made.) End off and repeat for next side.uh

Join pieces tog at inside markers and sew to mask as shown below.

Muzzle - make 1

Rnd 1: With Tan and H hook ch 18 and make 3 sc in 2nd ch from hook.

Sc in next 5 chs. Make 2 sc in next ch. Sc in each of the next 3 chs. Make 2 sc in next ch. Sc in each of the next 5 chs. Make 3 sc in end ch. Working on opposite side of ch,

Sc in each of the next 4 chs. Sc next 2 chs tog. Sc in each of the next 3 chs. Sc next 2 chs tog. Sc in each of the last 4 chs. Join to 1st sc with sl st. (36 sc made.)

Rnd 2: Ch 1 and (make 2 sc in next st) 3 times. Sc in each of the next 17 sts. (Make 2 sc in next st) 3 times. Sc in each sc until beg sc. Join to 1st sc with sl st. (42 sc made.)

Rnd 3: Ch 1 and (sc in next st. Make 2 sc in next st) 3 times. Sc in each of the next 17 sts. (Sc in next st. Make 2 sc in next st) 3 times. Join to first sc with sl st. End off leaving a long tail to sew to mask as shown below. (48 sc made.)

Embroider nose as shown below.

Cut a 10” piece of ¼” elastic and sew to sides of mask. Stiffen and shape as for Tiger mask.

Elephant Mask

1 oz. Gray Worsted Weight Cotton Yarn

½ oz Pink Worsted Weight Cotton Yarn

Make 2

Rnd 2: Ch 1, and make 2 scs in same st for an inc. Make 3 scs in next marked st (mark 2nd sc as center.) Make 2 scs in next st.

Sc in next 9 sts. Make 3 sc in marked st. Mark 2nd st as center. Sc in last 9 sts. Join to 2nd ch of beg ch-2 to end rnd. (28 sts made.)

Rnd 3: Ch 1 and sc in same st. Sl st in next 5 sts. Sc in next 11 sts. Make 3 sc in marked st moving marker to 2nd sc as center. Sc in last 10 sts. Join to 1st sc with sl st. Ears

Right Ear

Row 1: With pink yarn: Ch 2 make 5 sc into the 2nd ch from hook. Ch 1 and turn. (5 sc made.)

Row 2: Make 2 sc in 1st st for an inc. (Make 2 sc in each remaining st) around. Ch 1 and turn. (10 sc made.)

Row 3: (Sc in next st. Make 2 sc in next st) around. Ch 1 and turn. (15 sc made.)

Row 4: (Sc in each of the next 2 sts. Make 2 sc in next st) around. Ch 1 and turn. (20 sc made.) Row 5: (Sc in each of the next 3 sts. Make 2 sc in next st) around. Ch 1 and turn. (25 sc made.) Turn work and sc evenly across bottom. Join to 1st sc with sl st. In. End off and weave in end.

Join gray yarn in last st made on row 4

Row 6 - Short Row: Ch 1 and sc first 3 sts tog. Make 2 scs in next st. Sc in next st. Sl st in next st. Ch 1 and turn leaving rem sts unworked. (5 sts made.)

Row 7: Sk sl st, sl st in next st. Make 2 hdc in next st and dc last 2 sts tog. Ch 1 and turn. (4 sts made.)

Row 8: Sc in each of the next 4 sts. This will bring you to the main portion of the ear. Hdc in the st at the base of ear in 1st pink st.

Row 7: Sk sl st, sl st in next st. Make 2 hdc in next st and dc last 2 sts tog. Ch 1 and turn. (4 sts made.)

Row 8: Sc in each of the next 4 sts. This will bring you to the main portion of the ear. Hdc in the st at the base of ear in 1st pink st.

(Hdc in each of the next 3 sts. Make 2 hdc in next st) around. Sl st in each of the last 2 sts and into 1st bottom st. End off leaving tail to sew to side of mask as shown below.

Left Ear

Row 1: With pink yarn: Ch 2 make 5 sc into the 2nd ch from hook. Ch 1 and turn. (5 sc made.)

Row 2: Make 2 sc in 1st st for an inc. (Make 2 sc in each remaining st) around. Ch 1 and turn. (10 sc made.)

Row 3: (Sc in next st. Make 2 sc in next st) around. Ch 1 and turn. (15 sc made.)

Row 4: (Sc in each of the next 2 sts. Make 2 sc in next st) around. Ch 1 and turn. (20 sc made.) Row 5: (Sc in each of the next 3 sts. Make 2 sc in next st) around. Ch 1 and turn. (25 sc made.) Turn work and sc evenly across bottom. Join to 1st sc with sl st. In. End off and weave in end.

Rnd 1:With Gray and H hook, ch 19. Make 3 sc in 2nd ch from hook.Sc in each of the next 6 chs. Hdc in each of the next 6 chs. Dc in each of the next 4 chs. Make 6 dc in end ch. Working on opposite side of ch, dc in next 4 chains. Hdc in each of the next 6 chs. Sc in each of the last 6 chs. Join to 1st sc with sl st. (40 sts made.)

Rnd 2: Make 2 sc in 1st st. Sc in the next st. Make 2 sc in next st. (Sc in next st. Sc next 2 sts tog) 6 times. Hdc in each of the next 2 sts. (Make 2 hdc in next st) 5 times. Hdc in each of the next 2 sts. (Sc in next st. Make 2 sc in next st) 4 times. Sc in each of the last sts. Join to 1st sc with sl st. End off and weave in end.

Sew to mask as shown on cover. Stiffen and shape as before.
