GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS

Materials Needed:
350 yards White Cotton Crochet Thread - Bedspread weight
About 20 yards each: Pink, Blue, Green and Yellow Cotton Crochet Thread - Bedspread weight Small amount of Black Crochet Thread - Bedspread weight
Size 7 steel Crochet hook
Butterfly - Make 2 of each Pastel Color (Green, Yellow, Pink, Blue)
Rnd 2: Ch 3, 2 dc, in ring, ch 3. * (3 dc, ch 3) in ring. Repeat from * around 6 more times. End with sl st to 3rd ch of first ch 3. (8 ch 3 spaces and 8 three dc groups.)
Rnd 3: Sl st to first ch 3 sp. In sp make, ch 3, 2 dc. Ch 3, 3 dc. * In next ch 3 sp, make 3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc. Repeat from * around. End with sl st to 3rd ch of beginning ch 3.
Rnd 4: [Ch 1 sc in joining between 6 dc. * (In next ch 3 sp make 5 dc, ch 3, sc in 3rd ch from hook - picot made, 5 dc. Sc between 6 dc of previous round.) Repeat from * to * around.
Join to first sc with sl st. End off and weave in end. Fold Butterfly in half with picots held together. Sew down the center to hold together.
With Black cotton and size 7 hook leaving a 3” tail of thread , make a chain of 12. Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in next 10 ch. End off leaving a 3” tail. With both tails together, tie together at the body in a knot to form antenna. Trim antennae to ½”. Sew Body to Butterfly center with Antennae at top.
Doily
Starting at center, ch 10. Sl st to beginning ch to form a ring.
Rnd 1: Ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), work 23 dc in ring. Join to top of beginning ch 3. (24 dc.) Rnd 2: Ch 3, dc in next 2 dc, ch 3. * Dc in next 3 dc, ch 3. Repeat from * around. Sl st to top of beginning ch 3 to join.
shell - * (ch 5, sk next 3 dc, make 3 dc, ch 2 and 3 dc in next ch 3 sp.) - shell - Repeat from * 6 more times. End with ch 5, join as before. (8 ch 5 spaces and 8 ch 2 spaces.)
Rnd 4: St st in next 2 dc and ch 2 sp, work starting shell in same sp. * Ch 5, sk next ch 5 lp and first 3 dc of next shell, work shell in next ch 2 sp. (Shell over shell.) Sk last 3 dc of shell.
Repeat from * around. End with ch 5, join as before.
* Ch 6, work dtr over chains of Rnds 3, 4 and 5 as follows: [Yarn over 3 times, insert hook in ch 5 lp of Rnd 3 and draw up a lp. (Yarn over and draw through 2 lps.) 4 times.] Ch 6, sc in ch 2 sp of next shell. Repeat from * end with sl st to beginning sc.
Rnd 9: Sl st in next 2 dc and in next 3 ch of ch 6 lp. Ch 3, make 2 dc in same st. * Ch 2, make 3 dc in next ch, ch 5, sk next 3 dc, make 3 dc in 3rd ch of next ch 6 lp. Repeat from * around.
End with ch 2, make 3 dc in next ch, ch 5, sk last 3 dc, join with sl st as before.
make shell over shell. Repeat from * around. End with ch 7, sk next ch 5 lp, join with sl st to beginning ch 3.
(counts as first dtr and ch 1 sp.) * Make (dtr, ch 1) 6 times and dtr in same ch 2 sp. Work dtr over chs of Rnds 9, 10 and 11, dtr and ch 1 in ch 2 sp of next shell. Repeat from * around. End with (dtr, ch 1) 6 times and dtr in last ch 2 sp.
Work dtr over chains of Rnd 9, 10 and 11. Join to top of first dtr with sl st.
Butterfly Joining Round
§ Ch 1, (holding bottom of butterfly to top of doily with wrong sides together) draw a lp up
through bottom picot on butterfly wing. Thread over and draw through both lps to join. Ch 1 and sc in next lp. §
(ch 3, sk next dtr, sc in next ch 1 sp) 2 times. Ch 3, sk next 3 dtr, sc in next ch 1 sp. (Ch 3, sk next dtr, sc in next ch 1 sp) 2 times.
Repeat from § to § once. Ch 3, sk next dtr, sc in next ch 1 sp) 3 times. Ch 3, sk next 3 dtr, sc in next ch 1 sp.] *
Repeat from * [ to ] * around joining all eight butterflies. End with sl st to beginning sc. End off and weave in end.
Begin working between Butterflies and Doily:
*, sc in top picot. Ch 1 turn. (16 lps between butterflies.)
