Materials needed:
20 ounces #6 Bernat Sheepy yarn (Brown shown)
Size K crochet hook
Scraps of Pink #4 worsted weight yarn Size G crochet hook
Scraps of #3 Green Thread Size E hook
Black Embroidery thread and a needle
Stuffing and a nylon or something to hold the stuffing so it does not leak through.
Note: The Sheepy yarn is very hard to work with, but if you keep at it, it will get easier and the results are stunning. Alternately, you could use any #6 bulky yarn and a size K crochet hook. Also note that if you choose to use this yarn, you will mostly be crocheting and finding stitches by feel, so it is recommended to use a st marker to mark the beginning of the round and to count every row. You can always make up sts on the next rnd.
Beginning the Foundation Row
With #6 Bernat Sheepy yarn and a size K hook, ch 20 very loosely and sl st into the first ch to join.
Round 1: Ch 2, and dc in each ch around. (20) Mark the beginning dc as the 1st st. The beginning ch 2 does not count as a st.
Anti-Curling & Texture
Round 2: Sl st in first st, ch 1, hdc in same st, remove the marker and place in the top of the beginning hdc. Hdc in each of the next 7 sts, dc in next 12 sts. Join to first hdc. (20)
Round 3: Ch 1, hdc in same st, sc in next 6 sts, hdc in next, dc in next 12 sts. Join. (20) Round 4: Ch 1, hdc in same st, sl st in next 6 sts, hdc in next, dc in next 12 sts. Join. (20) Repeat Rounds 3 & 4: (5 - 12) FIVE times
Rounds 13-14: Repeat Round 3. After the last rnd, check to see if your piece is even. If it is great, but if it looks like picture 1, follow the directions below.
When the piece is laying naturally it's sides should match. It should not look like picture . If it does look like the picture above, follow directions 2 - 4 below.
Tear out a few stitches until it looks like picture 2 above.
Flip the piece over and sl st into the next st.
Continue with the pattern. Ch 1 and hdc form a circle.
Anti-Curling and Texture
Rnd 15. If you had to follow the steps above, skip this highlighted part and continue with the unhighlighted instructions. Sl st in first st, ch-1, hdc in same st and hdc in each of the next 7 sts, dc in next 12 sts. Join. (20)
Rnd 16: Ch 1, hdc in same st, sc in next 6 sts, hdc in next, dc in next 12 sts. Join. (20)
Round 17: Ch 1, hdc in same st, sl st in each of the next 6 sts, hdc in the next st, dc in next 12 sts. Join. (20)
Repeat Rounds 16 & 17 above. (Rnds 18 - 27) Five times.
Round 28: Ch 2 and dc in each dc around. Join to the top of the beginning dc with a sl st, end off and weave in the end leaving the leg open.
Begin Legs Here:
Step 1. Lay the piece out flat and measure to find the center of each leg opening.
Step 2. Place a marker in the center st. Step 3. Find the back center and mark.
Step 4. Attach yarn in a center marked st. Leave the marker.
Rnd 1. Make 10 sc right up to the next marker. Join to the 1st sc made with a sl st. You will be working the leg over these 10 sts.
Rnd 2. Grab another marker. We will not join, but do mark the 1st st and sc in each of the 10 sts around. Notice the 2 leg openings.
Rnds 3-9. Sc in each st around.
Rnd 10. sc2tog all the way around. (5 sc.) End off leaving a long tail.
Finishing. Using the tail weave the end of the last 5 sts together to close. Secure and weave in the end.
Stuff the leg now, it will make it easier later.
2nd Leg
Rnd 1. Ch 1 and make 10 sc around to the next marker. Join to the 1st sc made with a sl st.
Repeat rnds 2-10 above and finish in the same manner stuffing the leg as you go.
When you have finished the 2nd leg
It is crucial to add any remaining stuffing to the legs and fully stuff the body as you will not be able to do it later.
Legs 3 and 4
Find the center front and back of the 2nd opening as before and mark. Attach yarn in marked st. Follow the same instructions as for Legs 1 and 2, making sure to stuff the legs as you go.
Face
Make a magic circle with brown and ch 1.
Rnd 1. Ch 2 (does not count as a dc) and make 12 dc into the circle. Tighten the circle. End with a sl st into beg dc. (12 dc made.)
Rnd 2. Ch 2, make 2 dc in each st around. Join to 1st dc with a sl st. (24 dc made.)
Rnds 3 - 4. Ch 1, sc in each of the 24 sts around.
Rnd 5. Ch 2, (dc the next 2 sts tog) around. (12 dc made.
) End off leaving a long tail.
Finishing Head
Stuff the head through the opening. Using the long tail weave the 12 dcs tog and then sew the head to the pillow as shown below.
Ears - Make 2 Inner Ear
Row 1. With Pink #4 yarn and a size G hook, ch 7. Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. (6 sc made.) Ch 1, turn.
Row 2: Sc first 2 sc together. Sc in each of the next 2 sc. Sc last 2 sc together. (4 sc made.) Ch 1, turn.
Row 3: Sc in each of the 4 sc across. Ch 1, turn.
Row 4: Sc in the 1st st. Sc the next 2 sc together. Sc in the last st. (3 sc made.) Ch 1, turn.
Row 5: Sc in the 1st st, sk the next st and sc in the last st. (2 sc made.) Ch 1, turn.
Row 6: Sc both sc together. Ch 1, turn. End off leaving a long tail. Set aside and make the other inner ear.
Outer Ears - Make 2
Row 1. With Brown #6 yarn and a size K hook, ch 6. Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. (5 sc made.) Ch 1, turn.
Row 2: : Sc in the 1st two sts tog. Sc in the next st. Sc the last 2 sts tog.((3 sc made.) Ch 1 and turn.
Row 3. Sc all 3 sts tog. End off and weave in the end. Set aside.
Finishing
Sew the inner ear to the outer ear and then sew to the head as shown below.
Nose
With Pink #4 yarn and size G hook, make a magic circle and ch 1.
Rnd 1. Ch 1 and sl st in the ring. Make 2 hdc in the ring. Sl st in the ring and make 2 hdc in the ring. Join to the beginning sl st with a sl st. End off and weave in the end. Glue to the face as shown below.
Eyes - Make 2
With #3 green thread and size E hook make a magic circle and ch 1.
Rnd 1. Ch 1 and make 7 sc in the ring. Do NOT join.
Rnd 2. Sc in the 1st st. In the next st make a (hdc, dc and hdc.) Sc in each of the next 3 sts. In the next st make a (hdc, dc and hdc.) Sc in each of the next 2 sts. Sl st into the 1st st. (11 sts) End off and weave in the end. Glue to the face as shown below.
Tail
With Brown and K hook, make a magic circle and ch 1.
Row 1. Ch 3, sc in the 2nd ch from the hook and the last st. (2 sc) Chain 1 and turn.
Row 2. Sc in each of the 2 sc. Ch 1 and turn.
Repeat row 2 until the piece is 8 inches long. Sc2tog and end off. Weave in the end. Sew or glue tail to body as shown below.
