Materials Needed
Worsted weight yarns, 32 ounces white, 4 ounces black. Scraps of green, purple, blue, red and orange. Cotton crochet threads, size #10, bedspread weight, black, red and white. Crochet hooks, size H and size 7.
Special Stitches
Puff stitch: Yo, insert hook in stitch indicated, yo, draw up a loop 3 times in same st, yo, draw through all 7 loops on hook. Ch-1 to close puff.

Ninja Turtle Block
Rnd 1: With Green and size H hook ch 8, make 3 sc in 2nd ch from hook. Hdc in next ch. (Dc in next ch) 3 times. Hdc in next st. Make 3 sc in end ch. Working on opposite side of ch, hdc in next ch, (dc in next ch) 3 times. Hdc in last ch. Join to first sc with sl st. (16 sts)
Rnd 2: Ch 1, make 2 sc in joining. (Make 2 sc in next st) twice. Hdc in each of the next 5 sts. (Make 2 sc in next st) 3 times. Hdc in each of the last 5 sts. Join to first sc with sl st. (22 sts)
Rnd 3: Ch 1, make 2 sc in joining. Sc in next st. (Make 2 sc in next st) twice. Sc in next st. Make 2 sc in next st. Sc in each of the next 5 st. Make 2 sc in next st. Sc in next st. Rnds 2- 5: Sc in each sc across. Ch, 1, turn. (7 sc)
Rnd 6: Sc first 2 sc together. Sc in each of the next 3 sc. Sc last 2 sc together. Ch, 1 turn. (5 sc)
Rnd 7: Sc in each of the 5 sc across. Ch 1, turn. (5 sc)
Rnd 8: Sc in first sc. Sc next 3 sc together. Sc in last sc. (3 sc)
Finishing White of Eye: Do not end off, but turn and sc down rows 8-1, across bottom, up rows 1-8 and across top. Join to first sc with a sl st. End off leaving a 20” tail to sew to mask. Note: Make 3 sc in bottom corner and 2 sc in top corners to keep work flat.
Pupil – Rnd 1: With Black cotton crochet thread and size 7 hook. Ch 2, make 6 sc in 2nd ch from hook. Join to first sc with sl st. (6 sc)
Rnd 2: Ch 1, make 2 sc in each sc around. Join to first sc with sl st. (12 sc) End off leaving a 12” tail to sew to white of eye.
Finishing Eye: Sew pupil to middle bottom of eye as shown below. Sew White of eye to mask as shown below.
Mouth – Row 1: With Black cotton crochet thread and size 7 hook, ch 32. Sc in 2nd ch from and in each of the next 9 ch. Hdc in next st. Dc in each of the next 2 ch. Trc in each of the next 2 ch. Make 2 trc in next ch. Trc in each of the next 2 ch. Dc in each of the next 2 ch. Hdc in next ch. Sc in each of the last 10 ch. Ch 1, turn. (32 sts.)
Row 2: Sl st in each of the next 10 sts. In next st make a sc and hdc. Make 2 dc in next st. Dc in next st. Make 2 dc in next st. Dc in each of the next 4 sts. Make 2 dc in next st. Dc in next st. Make 2 dc in next st. In next st make hdc and sc. Sl st in each of the last 10 sts. End off leaving a 20” tail to sew to face.
Finishing: Pin and sew mouth in place as show above.
Tongue – Rnd 1: With red thread and size 7 hook, ch 4, make 3 sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next ch, make 3 sc in last ch. Working along opposite side, make 2 hdc in same end ch, sl st in next ch, make 2 hdc in first st. Join to first sc with a sl st.
Rnd 2: Ch 2, make hdc in joining for an increase. (Make 2 hdc in next st) once more. (Make hdc in next st) 5 times. (Make 2 hdc in next st) 3 times. Sl st in next sl st. Make 2 hdc in next st. Join to top of beginning ch-2 with a sl st. End off leaving a 12” tail. Sew to mouth as shown above.
Tail of Bandana – Row 1: With color of bandana ch 2. Make 2 sc in 2nd ch from hook. Ch 1, turn.
Row 2: Sc in each of the 2 sc. (2) Ch 1, turn.
Row 3: Make 2 sc in each of the sc. (4 sc) Ch 1, turn.
Rows 4-10: Sc in each sc across. (4 sc) Ch 1, turn. Row 11: (Sc 2 sc together) twice. (2 sc) Ch 1, turn. Row 12: (Make 2 sc in next sc) twice. (4 sc) Ch 1, turn. Rows 13-15: Sc in each sc across. (4 sc) Ch 1 turn.

Mark Face as shown below.
Written Marked Instructions:
Bottom Left Marker: Count down 9 stitches from where the bandana meets the face. Place a marker in the 10th st.
Bottom Right Marker: Count down 9 stitches from where the bandana meets the face. Place a marker in the 10th st.
You now should have 15 open markers between the bottom markers.
Top Left Marker: Place a marker in the 2nd left top st.
Top Right Marker: Place a maker in the 2nd right st.
You should now have 15 open stitches along the top.
You will have to add 6 stiches up the sides of the bandana and top of head to make 15 open stitches on the left and right sides.
Note: You may have to fudge a little to get 15 sts between the markers. Increase or decrease as needed.
Rnd 1: With the face facing you, attach white in the back loop of the bottom right marked corner st. Remove marker. Ch 6, in same st make a hdc. Hdc in back loop of next st. Sc in back loop of next 5 sts. Hdc in back loop of next st. Dc in back loop of next 2 sts. Up colored part of bandana make (2 dc and 2 hdc.) Make 2 sc up top side of head.
In blo of next marked st make (dc, ch 3 and dc.) Dc in blo of each of the next 2 sts along top. Hdc in blo of next 2 sts. Sc in blo of the next 7 sts along the top. Hdc in blo of next 2 sts. Dc in blo of next 2 sts.
In blo of next marked st make (dc, ch 3, dc and dc.) Make 2 sc down top side of head. In colored part of bandana make, (2 hdc and 2 dc) Dc in blo of next 2 sts (you are now on the bottom half of the face.)
Hdc in blo of next st. Sc in blo of next 5 sts. .) Hdc in back loop of next st.
In blo of next marked st make, (hdc, ch 3 and dc.) Dc in blo of next 2 sts. Hdc in blo of next st. Sc in blo of next 9 sts. Note: you may have to squeeze in a sc here by making an increase to make sure the count is at 17 sts between ch-3 corners. Hdc in blo of next st. Dc in blo of each of the next 2 sts. Join to 3rd st of beginning ch-6.
Rnd 2: Sl st into first ch-3 space. Ch 6, dc in same space. Dc in each of the next 17 sts. ** In next corner make (dc, ch 3 and dc.) Dc in each of the next 17 sts.* Repeat from ** to * around. Join to 3rd ch of beginning ch-6 with a sl st.
Rnd 3: Sl st into first ch-3 space. Ch 6, dc in same space. Dc in each of the next 19 sts. ** In next corner make (dc, ch 3 and dc.) Dc in each of the next 19.* Repeat from ** to * around. Join to 3rd ch of beginning ch-6 with a sl st. End off and weave in end.
Rnd 4: Attach Black yarn in any ch-3 space. Ch 1, ** Make 3 sc in corner. Sc in each dc down side.* Repeat from ** to * around. Join to first sc with sl st. End off Black and weave in end.
Finishing Square: Fold bandana tail as shown below.
Sew to side of head as shown below and set square aside.
Begin Body of Afghan
Ch 92 (Multiple of 3 + 2)
Row 1: Skip first 3 chs, **in next ch make, (dc, ch 1, dc.) Skip next ch, puff st in next ch, skip 1 ch, * repeat from ** to * across to last ch. In last ch make, (dc, ch 1, dc.) Ch 3, turn.
Row 2: Puff st in first ch-1 space. **In the st that closes the first puff st, (dc, ch 1, dc.) Puff st in next ch-1 space.* Repeat from ** to * across. End with dc in top of turning ch-3. Ch 3, turn.
Row 3: In top of first puff st make, (dc, ch 1, dc ) ** puff st in next ch-1 space. In top of next puff st make, (dc, ch 2, dc) *, rep from ** to * across to beginning ch-3, dc in top of beg ch-3 turn.
Repeat rows 2 and 3 for pattern until a total of 79 rows have been worked. (About 47- 48 inches long.)
Attach Black in last st worked. Ch 1, make 91 sc across top, by making a sc in first dc, ** sc in next dc, sc in next ch 1 space. Sc in next dc, sc in tip of puff st. * Repeat from ** to * across. End with sc in next dc, sc in next ch 1 space, sc in next dc. Sc in last dc. End off and weave in end.
Attach Black at opposite end (Beginning ch), sc in each ch across. End off and weave in end. (91 sc.)
Sew one block to each corner as shown below. Count 15 rows and attach the blocks to these 15 rows.
Filling in Sides – Row 1: Attach white to first st to left of Turtle block. Ch 3, ** in side of next st make (dc, ch 1, dc.) Puff st in side of next st. * Repeat from ** to * across. End with (dc, ch 1, dc) in side of next st and a dc in last st close to the side of the next Turtle block. Ch 3 turn.
Row 2: Puff st in first ch-1 space. **In the st that closes the first puff st, (dc, ch 1, dc.) Puff st in next ch-1 space.* Repeat from ** to * across. End with dc in top of turning ch-3. Ch 3, turn.
Row 3: In top of first puff st make, (dc, ch 1, dc ) ** puff st in next ch-1 space. In top of next puff st make, (dc, ch 2, dc) *, rep from ** to * across to beginning ch-3, dc in top of beg ch-3 turn.
Repeat rows 2 and 3 for pattern until a total of about 11-12 rows have been worked or until length of side is equal to the side of the block. End off and weave in end.
Attach Black in last st worked. Ch 1 ** sc in next dc, sc in next ch 1 space (Or in puff st. Just repeat the pattern that you did on the blanket.). Sc in next dc, sc in tip of puff st. * Repeat from ** to * across. End with sc in next dc, sc in next ch 1 space, sc in next dc. Sc in last dc. End off and weave in end.
Sew sides of Turtle block to blanket. Repeat for opposite side.
Blanket Edging: Attach black in any sc. Sc evenly around blanket twice making 3 sc in corners.
