Common Abbreviations

st = stitch

sl st= slip stitch ch = chain

chs = chains

sc = single crochet

hdc = half double crochet dc = double crochet

sl st = slip stitch

trc = treble crochet

dtrc = double treble crochet


Materials Needed:

Size #10 cotton crochet thread and a size B/1 – 2.25 MM crochet hook. 16 string-able beads (opt.)


Necklace

Row 1: Make starting braid as follows: Ch 6, dc in 5th ch from hook. (Counts as first 2 dc.) Dc in remaining ch.

(3 dc.) Ch 3 turn.

Row 2: Dc in next dc. Dc in top of ch-3 turning ch. (Counting first ch-3 as dc – 3 dc made.) Ch 3, turn.

Continue working Row 2 for a total of 24 rows or a multiple of 4 rows until desired length. Turn work 90 degrees to the right to begin working along the long side of braid.


Row 3:- Ch 1, sc in base of same st as last dc. *Ch 2, sc in base of next dc. Repeat from * across. Ch 1, turn.


Row 4: Sl st into first ch-2 loop. * Ch 1, skip next loop, in next loop make trc, (ch1, trc) 5 times for a total of 6 trc in loop. Ch 1, skip 1 loop, sc in next loop. Repeat from * across. End with sc in end st. Ch 1, turn.


Row 5: * (Make 2 sc in next ch-1 space) 3 times. In next ch-1 space make (sc, ch 3, sc in 3rd ch from hook for picot and sc.) (Make 2 sc in next ch-1 space) 3 times. Sl st in next sc. Repeat from * across. End off and weave in end. (6 trc- shells made.)


Row 1 - Work along opposite long edge: Turn braid to right-side and attach thread to right side at base of first dc with sl st.


Ch 1, sc in same space. (Make 2 sc over bar of next dc) across. End with sc in 4th ch of beginning ch-5. (48 sc made.) Ch 1, turn.


Row 2: Sc in same st. (Sc in next st. Ch 3, sc in side of last sc. Sc in same st. Skip next st.) Repeat across.


Preparing Sides

Row 1: Ch 1, turn lace to work across narrow end. Make 6 evenly space sc across end. Ch 1, turn. (6 sc)


Row 2: Sc first 2 sc together. Sc in each of the next 2 sc. Sc last 2 sc together. (4 sc) Ch 1, turn.

Row 3: Sc first 2 sc together. Sc last 2 sc together. (2 sc) Ch 1, turn.

Row 4: Sc first 2 sc together. (1 sc) DO NOT END OFF.


Tie

Create foundation sts as follows: * Ch 4, dc in 4th ch from hook. Repeat from * until 12 full sts have been made. Ch 54, more or less ch sts can be created here for a smaller or larger neck, make 3 dc in 3rd ch from hook. End off and weave in end.


Opposite side

Attach thread in side of top sc. Repeat “Preparing sides” 1-4 and tie.

Bottom of Necklace

Row 1L Attach thread between shells as shown below. ** Make 3 foundation sts. Ch 7, sl st in 7th ch from hook. Make 3 more foundation sts.


Sl st between next set of shells.* Repeat from ** to * 3 more times for a total of 4 loops. End off and weave in end.


Row 2: Attach thread in first ch-7 loop from previous row. ** Make 2 foundation sts. Ch 7, sl st in 7th ch from hook. Make 2 more foundation sts. Sl st in next ch-7 loop.* Repeat from ** to * 2 more times for a total of 3 loops. End off and weave in end.

Row 3: Attach thread in first ch-7 loop from previous row. ** Make 2 foundation sts. Ch 7, sl st in 7th ch from hook. Make 2 more foundation sts. Sl st in next ch-7 loop.* Repeat from ** to * 1 more times for a total of 2 loops. End off and weave in end.

Row 4: Attach thread in first ch-7 loop from previous row. ** Make 2 foundation sts. Ch 7, sl st in 7th ch from hook. Make 2 more foundation sts. Sl st in next ch-7 loop. End off and weave in end.


Small Flowers – Make 16

With thread and size B hook, ch 3 (2 dc, ch 2, sl st) in third ch from hook. (Ch 2, 2 dc, ch 2, sl st) 4 times in same st as first petal made. 5 petals. End off leaving length to sew to necklace as shown below.

Sew beads to center of necklace if desired.
