The Right Triangle Granny or ½ of a 4 Sided Granny (3-Sided)

The Triangle Granny is a three-sided motif that uses the same increase principle as the square but with only three corners. This is worked in turning rows to create a growing triangular piece (like a shawl).

Materials: Yarn and compatible hook.

Row 1: Establishing the Corners

  • Start: Use the Magic Ring (preferred for tight center)

  • Corner Start: Ch 3 (counts as dc).

  • Begininng Cluster: Work 2 dc into the ring,

  • Begin Tip: Ch 2 for the tip.

  • Opposite side: Make 3 dc in the ring.

Row 2. Side 1: Ch 3 and turn. Make 2 dc in the same st as the turning ch 3.

  • Center: Ch 1, in the next ch 2 sp make 3 dc, ch 2 and 3 dc.

  • Side 2: Ch 1 and make 3 dc in the last dc. (Top of the turning ch 3)

Row 3. Ch 3 and turn. Make 2 dc in the same st as the turning ch 3. Ch 1 and make 3 dc in the next ch 1 sp.

  • Ch 1 and in the top ch 2 sp make 3 dc, ch 2 and 3 dc.

  • Ch 1 and make 3 dc in the next ch 1 sp. Ch 1 and make 3 dc in the last st.

Repeater Rows: You will continue making 3 dc in the beginning and last sts, 3 dc in each ch 1 sp and a full corner at the top.

Note: You really only have to make 1 full corner on this Granny because the granny is cut in half and the end sts are the ends of the Triangle.
