Worsted weight yarn #4 Medium: 3.75 ounces of Red and size I crochet Hook. Small amounts of Black and white #3 Aunt Lydia’s cotton thread and size D crochet Hook. Scissors and a darning needle
Special Stitches
Front Post Stitch-fpdc: Yo (yarn over) your hook; starting from the front, place hook from front to back to front (as per arrow in example) around the post of st (stitch) in row below; complete as a dc or hdc as indicated in pattern.
Back Post Stitch-bpdc: yo, starting from the back, place hook from back to front to back (as per arrow in example) around post of st in row below; complete as a dc or hdc as indicated in pattern.
Starting at the Bottom Cuff of the Mitt – Rnd 1: Ch 24 (26, 28). Join the first ch to form a ring. Ch 3, (counts as first dc now and throughout) dc in each ch around. Join to top of first ch-3 with sl st. 24 (26, 28 dc)
Rnds 2-4: Ch 3, ** fpdc around next dc, bpdc around next dc. Repeat from * around. End with fpdc. Join to the top of ch-3 with sl st.
Rnds 5-10: Ch 3, dc in each dc around. Join to the top of first ch-3 with a sl st. Stop for size small and go on to Begin Thumb opening Row 1 Go on for sizes medium and large.
Med. and Lg. Rnds 15 – 16: Ch 3, dc in each dc around. Join to the top of first ch-3 with a sl st. Stop for size Medium and go on to Begin Thumb opening Row 1. Go on for size large.
Size Large Only-Rnds 17 – 18: Ch 3, dc in each dc around. Join to the top of first ch-3 with a sl st.
Begin Thumb opening Row 1: Ch 3, dc in each of the next 18 (20, 22) sts leaving 5 stitches unworked. Ch 3, turn.
Rows 2-3: Dc in each of the next 18 (20, 22) sts. Ch 3, turn.
At the end of Row 3: Ch 5, Join to the top of the first ch-3 made. Begin working in Rounds again.
Rnd 1: Dc in each of the next 18 (20, 22) sts. Dc in each of the next 5 chains. Join to top of first ch-3 with sl st. 24 (26, 28 dc)
Rnds 2-3: Ch 3, ** fpdc around next dc, bpdc around next dc. Repeat from * around. End with fpdc. Join to the top of ch-3 with sl st. At the end of Rnd 3, end off and weave in the end.
Thumb Rnd 1: Attach Yarn in first open st on thumb.
Ch 3, dc in each of the next 4 sts. Make 4 dc up thumb rows 1-3. Make 5 dc over ch-5 from thumb round 1. make 4 dc down rows 1-3. Join the first ch-3 with sl st. (18 sts made.)
Rnd 2: Ch 3, ** fpdc around next dc, bpdc around next dc. Repeat from * around. End with fpdc. Join to the top of ch-3 with sl st. End off and weave in the end. Set aside and repeat all of the instructions above for the 2nd hand.
Spider kid web
Rnd 1. With Black #3 thread and a size D hook make a magic circle and ch 5, dc in the ring. (Ch 2 and dc in ring) 10 times. Ch 2 and join to the 3rd ch of the beg ch 6 with a sl st. (12 dc made.)
Rnd 2. Ch 8, trc in the next st. (Ch 4 and trc In the next st) 10 times. Ch 4 and join to the 4th ch of the beg ch 8 with a sl st. (12 trc made.)
Rnd 3. Ch 10, trc in the next st. (Ch 6 and trc In the next st) 10 times. Ch 6 and join to the 4th ch of the beg ch 10 with a sl st.
(12 trc made.)
Rnd 4. Ch 10 and trc in the next st, Ch 6. Make a corner: *In the next st make (trc, ch 3, trc, ch 3 and trc.)
(Ch 6 and trc in the next st) twice. Ch 6 and rep from * 2 more times. In the next st make (trc, ch 3, trc, ch 3 and trc.) Ch 6 and sl st in the 4th ch of the beg ch 10.(20 trc made.)
Rnd 5. Ch 10 and trc in the next st. Ch 6 and trc in the next st. Ch 6 and dtrc in the next st. (Mark this st as the 1st corner.)

Stretch your piece into a square and mark the following 3 sts. This is important.
Place the web over the mitt.
Joining Rnd. Ch 7 and place the web over the Mitt.
Turn the mitt over and sl st into the marked st on the opposite side. Loosely sl st in each ch and stitch until the trc before the marked trc. Ch 7 and flip the glove over.
Sl st into the trc before the marked trc on the opposite side.
Sl st in each st and ch and into the marked st. Ch 7 and sl st into the marked corner st on the opposite side.
Flip the glove over to work across the top to attach the web to the glove.. Ch 1 and sc through both thicknesses in each chain and stitch around.
Join to the beginning sc with a sl st. End off and weave in the end.
Attach thread in the under the thumb opening.
Ch 8 and sl st into the trc on the sister side. Sl st in each ch until the next trc. Ch 8 and sl st into the last sister st on the next side. End off leaving a long tail. Stretch the web down evenly. Using the tail sew in place.
Very loosely (so the glove will stretch over the hand) sew down the bottom.
Set the piece aside.
When both sides are finished, the eyes.
Eyes
Left Eye
Rnd 1. With white ch 11. Sl st in the 2nd ch from the hook. Sc in each of the next 2 chs. Hdc in the next ch. Dc in the next ch. Trc in the next ch. Make 4 trc in the next ch. Trc in the next ch. Dc in the next ch. In the end ch make (hdc and 2 sc.) Working on the opposite side of the ch, sc in each of the next 9 chs. Sl st in the end ch but do not join.
Rnd 2. Sl st in each of the 1st 2 sts. Sc in each of the next 9 sts. Make 2 sc in the next st. Sc in the next st. In the next st make a (sc, ch 1 and a sc.) Sc in each of the next 9 sts. Join to the 1st sl st with a sl st end off and weave in the end.
Rnd 3. Join Black thread in any st on rnd 2 and sc evenly around the entire piece making increases as needed across the top rounded portion. Make 4 sc in the end where all the sl sts are at. Join to the beginning sc with a sl st. End off leaving a long tail to sew to the mitt.
Right Eye
Rnd 1. With white ch 11. In the 2nd ch from the hook make, (2 sc and 1 hdc.) Dc in the next ch. Trc in the next ch. Make 4 trc in the next ch. Trc in the next st. Dc in the next st and hdc in the next st. Sc in each of the next 2 sts. In the end st make 2 sl sts and 1 sc. Sc in each of the next 8 sts. Do not join.
Rnd 2. Sc in the 1st st. In the next st make (sc, ch 1 and sc.) Sc in the next st. Make 2 sc in the next st. Sc in each of the next 9 sts. Sl st in each of the next 4 sl sts. Sc in each of the last 9 sts. Join to the 1st st with a sl st. end off and weave in the end.
Rnd 3. Join Black thread in any st on rnd 2 and sc evenly around the entire piece making increases as needed across the top rounded portion. Make 4 sc in the end where all the sl sts are at. Join to the beginning sc with a sl st. End off leaving a long tail to sew to the mitt.
Finishing
Sew eyes to mitts as shown on cover.
